Spending Many More Days & Hours At Home These Days? Here are the gadgets I showed on World News Now that can help you spend that time more productively.

You're probably spending a lot more time watching TV and reading these days. Me too, and that's when I remembered prism spectacles, which are sometimes referred to a bed-glasses. I had a pair many years ago, but recently bought new ones branded Evelots. Prism spectacles allow users to read text or watch television from a lying down position. They're a big help because you don't have to crane or bend your neck in awkward positions. Lay completely flat in bed with a book propped up in your lap or view a television on a wall or table. These lay flat bed reading glasses are also a big help for limited mobility or bed-ridden patients. Watching television with them I find the TV experience is not as immersible as watching it in a sitting position with the glasses. That might be because when I'm laying almost flat in my recliner chair, I am a big further back from the TV. Prism spectacles accommodate your regular eyeglasses. I wear mine over my usual eyewear which are prescription glasses for reading, an magnifier glasses for distance and TV. These glasses do not magnify or focus images on their own, but simply tilt images at a 90-degree angle in order to view vertical images while in a horizontal position. Made of durable plastic with mirrors. The company adds this note: These glasses are to be used for a short periods only. Please remove the glasses before falling asleep. Do not wear while walking/in motion as they can be disorientating. One pair was about $10.00, but two pair were $15 when I bought them earlier this year.

Long Phone Calls? Long Skype or Facetime Calls? Why Not Wear Your Phone?

The Aduro Phone Neck Holder/Phone Mount lets you wear your smart phone or mini-tablet (up to 7") Hands Free. About a year ago I did a “prank box” gadget called Tech Neck, a way to wear your phone around your neck. But a Prank Box is an empty box showing a silly gadget that doesn't exist. But recently I found The Aduro Lazy Phone Holder which pretty much does the same thing, but is for real! It's compatible with smartphone sizes up to 7", even with a case on it according to the company. My LG G6 with case fit fine with room to spare. This device holds the phone at an optimal viewing angle you set and it offers 360-degree rotation. I think it looks a bit goofy, but on an airplane or in bed I think it will work fine. You can wear it or even use it as a phone desk stand. Aduro adds: We made the Aduro neck cell phone mount with high-quality alloy, rugged ABS plastic and anti-skid shockproof breathable foam which makes your neck feel comfortable while giving you the best viewing experience. I paid about $11.00 online.

Gym Closed? No problem. You Probably Have "Free" Weights At Home!

Now that the gym is closed I exercise at home, usually watching free YouTube exercise videos. To add a bit of weight I remembered something from more than 10 years ago, the Knife & Forklift! I still had them at the warehouse. Here's the story:

For years we’ve been told that you if you slow down while eating you won’t eat so much. True or not, here’s something that will slow down even the fastest eater and give them a bit of exercise at the same time! The Knife and Fork Lift is a combination of utensils and dumbbells! Yep you read that right! These dumbbell utensils can serve as a constant reminder that eating puts weight on and requires exercise to take it off. Lifting food with these utensils is like doing curls with dumbbells because each one weighs 1.5 lbs! So if you’re cutting a piece of steak with the knife & fork you’re working with 3 pounds of stainless steel. Knife and Fork Lift’s inventor, Tom Madden says. “Everybody approaches it as a joke, but when you think about it, it does require you to eat more slowly.” Eating more slowly, say many health experts, allows the brain time to register feelings of satiety, resulting in eating less. That’s why Tom came up with a knife and fork encased in a dumbbell-shaped handle. I ate with these things and you definitely feel you’re lifting some weight! They’re beautifully made and can be used a table centerpiece if you don’t want to actually use them. They can stand on end as a silent reminder to slow down and chew! Heck, there's even a medical warning about using them to exercise on the company website! And now there's a newly added matching spoonlift.

UPDATE: The website link below still works 10 years later. But the inventor is looking for investors and is not selling the product himself anymore.

    http://www.knifeandforklift.com/

But you don't need the knife & forklift. Here are some items you most likely already have at home that you can use for "free" weights:

An 16.7 ounce water bottle weighs approximately one pound 2 oz, a bit less than the knife & forklift.

Quart of milk approx: 2 pounds 4 oz or 2 ¼ pounds

A 2 liter bottle of soda is a little over 4 1/2 pounds.

A gallon of milk weighs approximately 8.5 pounds.  Laundry detergent jug could be used too. Just make it's okay with your doctor to exercise with any weights.

Here's a great article about lots of ways to make your own 'free' weights!
