For Boaters, Here's A Giant Safety Step Up From A Cell Phone For An Emergency.

If you're a boater, your cell phone can provide lots of marine information and keep you in touch with friends, the marina, etc. But in an real marine emergency, the Cobra Marine MR HH 600 VHF radio can a lot more. It has the ability to know your GPS coordinates and automatically transmit them with DSC calls to notify the Coast Guard or other vessels of your exact position in case of emergency. This radio also floats and has a built-in flashlight and emergency S.O.S. strobe. With the Bluetooth feature,  you can keep your cell phone safe and dry the cabin, and place/receive phone calls through the VHF radio out on deck. A feature called Rewind-Say-Again – lets you replay missed VHF calls. And there's selectable output - that lets you choose between 1, 3, and 6 Watts for short and long range communication. There's weather alert, NOAA weather channels and illuminated keys, including a dedicated Man Over Board key. MSRP: $229.99, but I see it for less on Amazon.

I just found the Cobra Marine MR HH 600 on Defender for under $150! I don't know how long that sale price will last. I have no affiliation with Defender but I have bought marine supplies there quite a few times and found them reliable.
