    Episode 1120

    Australian Verse
Today’s Warehouse intro verses were penned by Danny Whitmer from Sydney, Australia.

    The Voices of Paul Frees
Leo loves the “no windows and no doors” voice at the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland – Paul Frees, who also did the Pillsbury Dough Boy.  Leo thinks Paul Frees also did Tony the Tiger, although Dick says it’s Bob Jones.  Probably both are wrong, as it was Dallas McKennon and Thurl Ravenscroft, a subject previously discussed on DGW.  See Episode 271.

    The Voice of Eddie Lawrence
Bob Kuehn has a friend who is going through some tough times, and wants to find an audio sample of an old time radio guy whom Dick and Leo talked about, which might just cheer his friend up.  Leo knows exactly who – Eddie Lawrence, the Old Philosopher.

    Episode 1119

    Prime Suspect
Will Cool, who wrote in Episode 1105 about a potential problem of “free shipping” with Amazon Prime, wanted to give Dick and Leo an example but could not reproduce the problem.  Fortunately another listener has an explanation.  Chris Miller says that on Amazon’s mobile client, a product will show the Amazon Prime icon on the item, then you open up the mobile interface which will show you the best price.  The best price is not necessarily the price with the Prime free shipping.  So you need to look at all the options and find the Prime price.  Leo says that it’s the same on the desktop version, but it’s less noticeable on the mobile version.

    Episode 1118

    Oberon Design
Leo has received a new iPad case from Oberon Design in Santa Rosa.  He wishes he had made that his TTTT gadget yesterday.

    DGW Downloadable Video

Lindsay Kooser the Computer Guy has been downloading and watching the videos of DGW on YouTube, although it doesn’t update as reliably as the audio podcast feed.  Lindsay doesn’t use iTunes but uses the Juice Receiver.  Leo suggests using the following feeds (for podcast clients):

    For large videos: pcast://feeds.twit.tv/dgw_video_large
    For small videos: pcast://feeds.twit.tv/dgw_video_small

    Episode 1117

    iPad Data Pricing Down Under
Denzel from Australia thinks the iPad might be heading for the Gadget Warehouse down under, given Telstra‘s expensive data packages.  It’s A$75 for 10GB at 30Mbps download speed.  If Leo continues to bring out new podcasts, Denzel will have to be more selective with his downloads, or upgrade to a higher plan.

Those figures look like Telstra’s cable broadband package, not mobile broadband for the iPad.  Telstra offers Pre-Paid Micro-SIM cards for the iPad 3G – A$30 for the card with 1GB for the first month, and recharges at differing prices, ranging from about A$37.5 to a staggering A$90 per GB.

Dick tested the new webcam and the video is available on his YouTube Channel madmaddest.

    A Mess of Mods
As Leo said last Friday, for this recording session, Dick has a troop of visiting chatroom moderators in Gizneyland, headed by Dan Hendricks, Becky, cwbp et al.

    Gone Mental
Jeff from Knoxville, Tennessee has been a listener since Episode 1, and has never missed a show.  He even got his father hooked on DGW after he got himself an iPod.  Unfortunately, he realised things had gone seriously wrong for him when he started air-drumming a DGW jingle while at work today.  He’s going to check himself into a mental institution after this email.  Oh, but he’ll miss Warehouse Friday.  OK, after that then.  But no, Leo hasn’t reviewed the iPhone 4 yet.
