Need to see the same video on a 2nd Monitor? Or extend the view of your monitor?

Accell has a new UltraVideo USB 2.0 to DVI-I or VGA Video Adapter. It’s an easy way to send audio & video to an a DVI or VGA-enabled monitor, TV or other display device, via USB. They sent a product sample just before CES. Hook-up took about a minute. One end plugged into a USB 2.0 port on my computer and the other end plugged into my View-Sonic Monitor. You don’t have to add anything to your computer. All the hardware is built into the device. I use it so I can see Skype guests on 2 different monitors. Accell also makes a HDMI version. The Accell J130B-001B UltraVideo USB 2.0 to DVI-I/VGA Video Adapter retails for about $75 (if you do a web search) and the HDMI version is about $10 more.

More power to your food!

Remember when batteries had a little gauge on the side that would tell you how much power was left inside. These “D” size batteries have a gauge on the side that tells you how much ‘salt & pepper’ you have left.  Yep, you read that correctly. These are actually Battery Salt & Pepper Shakers. If you love gadgets, you most likely have a drawer full of new and half used batteries, so these handy shakers will fit right in with your lifestyle. Here’s what they say about them over at Taylor Gifts where they’re available for about $10 – (as of 2/10/12) “Rechargeable salt and pepper battery shakers energize food with a powerful punch of flavor sure to give dull meals a jolt. Stylish, colorful red (pepper) and blue (salt) shakers replicate "D" batteries in every way, only they cannot power your electronic toys. Clear strip indicates when you are running low. Simply refill to recharge! Plastic.”  You can also do a web search and find them at Amazon.com.

A fan sends an envelope with some amazing stamps on it!

Beckee Williams, a fan of show (and MAD) sent me fun gift. It's a glow-stick skeleton baseball cap kit. But there are no instructions, and quite frankly, I think someone didn't put the correct parts inside. But it doesn't matter, but once assembled, it would only glow for a few hours. The best gift was the envelope! Look at those stamps! It's everything I love -- trains & boats! And there's no MAD Magazine stamps, so Beckee cleverly found an Alfred Newman stamp. Who knew Alfred Newman- the musical conductor - had his own stamp. I bet Alfred E. Neuman is better known than the other Alfred. Oh, well, What? Me Worry! Thanks, Beckee!

Chief TWiT Leo Laporte comes to The Big Apple.

2 very camera shy guys meet 4 breakfast at Good Enough 2 Eat in NYC. (West 83rd & Amsterdam Avenue) TWiT CEO Lisa & TWiT Producer Nicole were there too, enjoying thick slice French Toast. I have a huge apple pancake. Leo had kind of healthy poached eggs & sauage. Leo's in town to be on Live! w/Kelly (minus Regis) Friday Feb 3rd. He's going to be showing the $33,000 iPod Dock -- world's largest -- so big two people can get on top of it. Set your DVR. Fri 9-10 AM ABC EST - probably time adjusted since it's the network. If you miss it, I bet TWiT will make it available. I'll put up a link here if they do.

Sounds like a 'fish-tale', but it's true!

In my 40 years of boating I had a boat stolen once. A day later it was found floating in the middle of the Hudson River, striped clean. The twin outboard engines and all electronics were gone. The boat had a fair amount of water in it, but it stayed afloat and could be saved.

But that's nothing compared to what happened to two boaters in August, 2008. They were aboard their boat a 26' center console Regulator boat off the coast of Nantucket, Mass. They were trapped in rough water and ended up being tossed off the boat by a giant wave.  Fortunately, the two boaters came out of the terrible ordeal quite alive. They were convinced however, that their boat had made its way to the bottom of the sea. But in something that almost seems to be out of a movie script, more than three later, they received an unbelievable call from the Coast Guard. The Spanish Coast Guard found their boat. Quite beaten up and covered with barnacles, it washed up on the Spanish coast. According to MSNBC, Lt. Joe Klinker, a U.S. Coast Guard spokesman, said the most likely scenario is that the boat somehow got across the continental shelf and into the Gulf Stream. From there it may drift north off the coast of northern Canada and then east with the North Atlantic currents," Klinker told msnbc.com. He said it's rare, but not unheard of for an object off the coastline of the United States to drift across the Atlantic to Europe. But a boat? "I've never heard of anything like this," Klinker said. Of course, Regulator, the company that made the boat, can sure claim they build rugged boats! And that's a heck of a cruise without using a drip of gas.
