Now Kids Can Have Their Own Inexpensive POV Digital Camcorder.

I found a few new gadgets at SHOWSTOPPERS, an event held Monday night, September 10th, in New York City.

JAKKS Pacific was showing their new Action Shot Camera System. Sure they are a growing list of action POV cameras, but this one is aimed the lower age group and it comes in at a much lower price. The Action Shot Camera System is a small, portable mini-camera designed to capture your point of view as you  do thrilling things like skate, surf, ski, bike, snowboard, etc. Attach it to your helmet - a head/helmet mount is supplied, along with an adhesive board mount – and it’s ready to roll. Press the record button and shoot video as you do your daredevil best; with safety gear in place, of course! You can upload the footage and share it with friends via the built in USB connector. There’s a tiny bit of memory (128MB) is built into the camera, but it’s only good for about 2 minutes of video, so you definitely want to add a micro SD card. There’s also a built in microphone. Video and stills are VGA quality, VGA resolution (640x480) at 30 frames per second, QVGA resolution (320x240) at 60 frames per second. Photos: 640 X 480. A high def version will be available before the holidays, sometime in December. You charge the internal Lithium Polymer battery via USB too, and it’s good for 2 to 4 hours of shooting on a full charge. And now for the price. JAKKS Pacific said they want to make an innovative and affordable alternative to expensive sports video cameras, and they did. The Action Shot Camera System, includes the camera, helmet mount, adhesive mount, protective or mounting case, and USB connection dongle at a suggested retail price of $49.99. There are also some neat optional accessories available now, or very soon. For about $25, you can add a video viewer attachment, which will let you view your videos before you get back to your computer. There’s a waterproof camera protection kit, and a multi-function mounting kit for bikes, boards, motorcycles, etc. Recommended for kids 8+. Available just about now.
