The Giz Wiz Show 1695, October 5th 2018 Independent Show #178

The Giz Wiz Show is far into it's 13th year of production, and the fourth year of Independent Production! (The very first show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!)

This week and next The Giz Wiz will be showing new and unique gadgets from the huge Interbike Show 2018 that took place in Reno, NV. Sept 17 to 20.

There were a lot more unique gadgets at Interbike 2018 than bikes. For example it was the 1st time I ever saw Hovershoes! They're InMotion's latest invention that takes the concept of a hoverboard and splits it into two independent machines; one for each foot! The company says it's a totally new experience that feels more like rollerskating with the freedom to zip around at will and that Hovershoes X1 are easier to learn and safer than hoverboards. Well, I think they have to add  “assuming you're young, agile and well coordinated. I couldn't even get the hang of balancing on juist one of them, but then I'm not their target audience. Here are the specs of the Hovershoes X1 provided by Inmotion: Battery: 54Wh each / Motor: 250W each / Payload: 22 - 176 lbs / Max Range: 7 miles / Speed: 7 mph / Max Grade: 9° / Waterproof: IP65 / Charge Time: 1.5 hours / Weight: 6 lbs each Tire Diameter: 3.5 in.

And the price? One pair of Hovershoes, charger, + one year warranty is $499.

As you'll see in this week's show you see two brand new InMotion Electric Unicycles, the V10 & the V10F - extended range. Here are some of the specs from the company:

Range: V10 43 miles max, V10F 55-62 miles max (Amazing!) Speed: 25 mph / Weight: 45.4 lbs / Payload: 260 lbs / Lights: Front, rear, and side LED (fully customizable in app)

Price: $1299.00-V10 $1599.00 V10F (First production sold out, but you can preorder at the company website for delivery early in 2019.)

Take along everything, including the kitchen sink if you want, with a Yuba Bike.

One huge category of bikes featured at Interbike are the 'cargo bikes'. Then can carry people, kids, dogs, groceries, actually, just about anything. I stopped by Yuba Bikes one of the biggest company producing cargo bikes to check out what is knew. In the video you'll see a Yuba bike for the driver, and three kids (including seat belts) with plenty of room for groceries too. When it rains there's a new top with opening side windows to keep the kids and/or dogs dry. And this company has both pedal and electric versions. I also learned that you pick out a bike type and then go through their extensive catalog to customize the bike for all your personal carrying needs.

No 'saddle' (aka bike seat) will ever fit you better than this one.

As you would expect at a top notch bike show leaning toward the high end biker, saddle comfort (a.k.a bike seat) is one of the top priorities. The folks at Landyachtz say that they have the world's only custom moldable saddle, the Reform. How do you know it will be the right fit for your sit bones? Because the seat has a built in heating element which is used to start the customizing process. You bring your bike to a Reform equipped dealer where it is put on a trainer, one of those devices that lets you peddle in place. The Reform saddle is installed on your bike and then heated for 3 to 5 minutes depending on the ambient temperature. Now you, the rider, gets into the hot seat (so to speak) and let your sit bones create a saddle you can totally relax into. You perform your various riding positions for about 15 to 20 minutes. And now you should have the perfectly matched saddle! As you might expect, this is not inexpensive. The saddle I saw the the Interbike show will retail for $350. If you want to perform the fitting on your own, a version with the heater device that plugs into AC will be priced at $400. Available Spring 2019.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His New Theme For October, 2018

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members and asked them to vote on his new 'cheap theme' for October. And even though it won many times before, it won again this year. The winner is “Cheap Halloween Gadgets”! Scary!

Chad's first cheap Halloween gadget is: The Hallmark Haunted Halloween Spin-A-Song Musical Toilet Paper Holder. Here's what Amazon says about it: Hallmark Haunted Halloween Spin-A-Song Musical Toilet Paper Holder, a comical bit of novelty fun, will really get you rolling! Just replace your current toilet paper holder with this festive, Halloween-themed one, and hear a haunting song every time you spin it. Perfect for Halloween, Fall and Autumn! $9.99 & free shipping, but not Amazon Prime.

And Chad's take? Chad bought it because he said 'if it's from Hallmark, how bad can it be?' Well, it turns out, on the crappy side. There are zero instructions, but it does come with batteries. Chad figured out how it works, but as you'll see in the video, the spring mechanism isn't very reliable and the selection of about 5 tunes and sound effects will probably wear out rather quickly. But again, it was just about $10.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

This week's viewer video is from Princess Willy showing off his “new” purchase of a bottle of fountain pen ink that probably dates back to the 1930's!

It was marked 29 cents, but Willy paid $13.50 because he collects pens and was intrigued about something special built into the Scripts ink bottle.

You'll learn it all in his video:

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!
