The Giz Wiz Show 1696, October 12th 2018 Independent Show #179

The Giz Wiz Show is far into it's 13th year of production, and the fourth year of Independent Production! (The very first show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv  You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!)

This week we see three final and unique gadgets from the huge Interbike Show 2018 that took place in Reno, NV. Sept 17 to 20.

Meet the Green Guru Commuter Backpack.

Green Guru Commuter Backpack - Under $100 (UPDATE: I checked the company website on 10/1/18 and it was $80. I don't if or when it will return to $100.) This rugged backpack is designed with all up-cycled items. What's up-cycled? Something repurposed to a new use, almost in its original form. On this backpack you can keep your goods protected with the stormproof, upcycled bicycle inner tubes that make up the flap of the backpack. There's a huge main compartment, a separate front pocket, plus storage room behind the front pocket. It can be closed with the web strap snap, or for extra waterproofing, the top can be rolled tight and then snapped. The fabric of the backpack is up-cycled waterproof tent material from commercial venues. Even the reflector was originally part of a traffic highway sign! And there's even a loop where you can attach a red signal light to the backpack when wearing this while biking.

Bosch adds two new gadgets to their ebike systems.

Bosch eBike Systems has been equipping eBikes with efficient drives since 2010. Innovative technology from Bosch is present in many pedelecs - even the first generations of the Bosch eBike Systems are still very up-to-date. The Bosch eBike System consists of an on-board computer, Drive Unit and a battery. Each one of those components are available in every changing devices. As you'll see in this week's show Bosch is introducing a new battery system that can be hidden in the bike frame and also a new rugged color, Bluetooth enabled on-board computer, the Kiox. It can keep track of the battery charge level, as well as your speed, heart rate and performance. Bosch calls it the perfect training partner for ambitious riders. Something I didn't realize is that although Bosch makes complete ebike systems, they don't make bikes. Below you'll find a link to the huge directory of bike manufacturers who offer bikes equipped with Bosch ebike systems.

Last year this helmet was just a concept, now it's in the marketplace.

Sena Smart Cycling Helmet is designed specifically for road cycling with seamlessly integrated Bluetooth 4.1 technology. Riders can pair their smartphone and hear GPS directions, listen to music, take phone calls, even hear cues from fitness apps. This is also perfect for group riding because you can link up to 4 Sena R1 helmets to converse up to half a mile away on open terrain. None of the electronics cover your mouth or ears but you can still hear perfectly through the stereo speakers and noise-canceling mic built into the helmet. Available in orange, blue or black. At the Interbike 2018 Show in Reno, NV, I put a Smart Cycling Helmet on and walked out of the exhibit area, down a long hallway and could still easily converse with the spokesperson back at the Sena booth. $229.00

Chad's Crappy Corner & His Second Gadget For His New October Theme!

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members and asked them to vote on his 'cheap gadget theme' for October. Even though it won many times before, it won again this year. The winner is “Cheap Halloween Gadgets”! Scary!

Chad's second cheap Halloween gadget is: The On'h Animated Eyeball Halloween Doorbell Decorations Light Up Talking Eyeball Doorbell.

Here's what Amazon says about it: When the button is pushed, the eye lights up, rolls, and makes spooky sounds. There are 4 rotating messages: welcome / enter at your own risk / greetings / you rang with creaking and spooky laughter. For covered outdoor use, or even inside by the bathroom door at the costume party. Haunt the halls. Transform your home into a worthy fright fest. Welcome guests with an eye-opening surprise.

And Chad's take: Chad liked this. Although it was hard to hear exactly what the message spoken was, the eye does open and light up. And watch Chad demonstrate how to get the eye to open and close without hearing the sound effects or voice. All-in-all Chad thought this was pretty good for $14.99 on Amazon.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

This week's viewer video is from Lydia and John Bauer. Here's their email:

Hi Dick and Chad!

We don’t have TV, internet or cell service in our new vacation home so we download your podcasts to our iPads.  As a thank you for entertaining us on Sundays as that’s when we binge watch episodes we wanted to share this video with you. See if you can spot that Hawk in the opening we didn’t realize we had taped. I threw in some video at the end you can simply cut out but we had captured some video of him earlier as he flew right over us.  Here is our gadget video...enjoy.

https://youtu.be/bFHAQzCc8bo

Oh...and just for giggles here is another video I made because also a perk of buying a house in the mountains with 2 acres of land we now own a John Deere tractor which we both take turns mowing...it’s quite a zen experience. But here I had some fun with it. Hope it brings you a smile too.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
