Giz Wiz Show 1598 for November 25th, 2016, Our 82nd Independent Production.

Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters The Giz Wiz Show not only continues, but is well into its 2nd year of independent production. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support. And now, on the show!

On this episode, and the one next week, we preview CES 2017, with new, high-tech gadgets we found at CES Unveiled, New York.

Smart Remote wins three CES 2017 awards including most innovative product in the Smart Home category.

It's a dream we all have. Being able to pick up one single remove to control everything in your home. Well now the folks at Seven Hugs say that can happen. That their Smart Remote instantly adapts to anything you point at. Anything?? Well, pretty close. Smart Remote is compatible with over 25,000 devices and counting. It gives you the ability to control any device via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or Infrared. That includes devices like Smart TVs, Philips Hue and LIFX smart bulbs, Sonos speakers, Nest Learning Thermostats, and many more. Their point and control technology enables Smart Remote’s screen to adapt instantly to any device and display intuitive touch-screen controls customized for each device you point at. It uses motion tracking sensors and an indoor positioning system. It allows users to control their devices and more. Even get instant access to popular services like Uber. Order a ride by pointing Smart Remote at your front door or check the weather forecast by pointing it at your window. Do people want this? Well Sevenhugs’ Kickstarter campaign goal for Smart Remote was $50,000. When I checked on 1/20/17 the campaign was over and the project was funded with $1,323,009! Smart Remote will be available at select retailers in Fall ‘17 for $299.99. But depending on when you're reading this, there may still be early-bird Kickstarter pricing. You can get there via their website link below.

Is that 'electromagnetic radiation' in your underwear, or are you just happy to see me?

Radiation blocking undergarment? Do you need it? Well, this is what SPARTAN Boxer says: Wireless technology has changed the way we live. But between Wi-Fi and cellphone signals, we are exposing ourselves to a great amount of electromagnetic radiation all day long. This is far from harmless! A number of major scientific institutions around the world have raised alarms over the harmful effects of wireless radiation. By replicating dozens of studies, they have confirmed that wireless radiation has an adverse effect on male fertility. These are just the short-term effects. It’s the long term we need to be concerned about – we could be facing a real societal problem. --- So now the next question is up to you. Are you worried enough to change to SPARTAN underwear? They say that their exclusive fabric, made of silver fibers and cotton, blocks over 99% of wireless radiation such as cellphone and wifi radiation. And that having been designed in Paris they offer exceptional fit and amazing design. And the price? About $45 a pair.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His Final 'Under $5' Gadget, His Theme For November.

What a coincidence. Chad didn't know I was going to report on the new MSI VR capable computers, but it fits right in with Chad's cheap $5 and under gadget this week. While the MSI VR computers start at about $900, Chad's gadget was just $5. It's the Virtual Reality 3D headset, once again from Five and Below.

Here's what Five and Below says about it online. (Link below.) The Virtual Reality 3D headset (SKU 2709160) Jump into your own reality w/ this virtual reality 3d headset. This super cool mask allows you to transport to a whole new world; the world of your fave games & movies. Simply connect it to your mobile device & convert your phone into a virtual reality cinema instantly! It's for screen sizes 3.5"-6". Free apps included. Made in: China. Brand: electronic necessities®.

(It's at this Five Below link as of 11/24/16)

https://www.fivebelow.com/virtual-reality-3d-headset.html

And Chad's take: When Chad first unboxed the VR Headset, it looked like it cost a lot more than $5. Chad pointed out that some VR Masks cost $150 (more & less) and offer a lot of more adjustments, but for $5 this was pretty good. Pretty good, but not without any faults. The rubbery pad at the back of the device which holds the smart phone steady was glued on at a slight angle and didn't seem to always hold Chad's phone straight. Chad has one of the bigger iPhones. I think he said it was the 6S. Although the ad on Five Below says app included, Chad didn't see one, but he found several free VR apps in the Apple app store. (Google Play has VR apps too.) Chad showed us that the VR Mask included two cards that could be scanned with a smart phone to get VR free games. Perhaps one of those cards also includes a free app. All-in-all Chad thought was a pretty decent value for just $5.

It also seems to be on Amazon (it shows the exact same box as Chad showed) but it's $10.99 with free shipping for Prime Members:

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos!

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video!

IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

The Letter of the week:

From: Blue Green Yoshi

Subject: Star Trek Phaser and Communicator

Dear Dickie D and Red C,

I was out showrooming at Best Buy the other day and found these two pricey pieces of nostalgia you might wish to share on the show. First up is a Star Trek Communicator that connects to your cellphone via Bluetooth. You can use it to make calls just like on the show. Second is a Phaser that is set to stunning as it can control your TV as a remote. Both items are priced at way more than they are worth, but as pieces of nostalgia, at least they have a practical use. Hope they bring a smile to your face and a moth flying from your empty pockets.

Yours in mirth and merriment,
Chad Masters (aka BlueGreenYoshi)
