The Giz Wiz Show 1615 for March 24th 2017, Our 98th Independent Production.

Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters The Giz Wiz Show not only continues, but is heading toward the end of its 2nd year of independent production. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/  You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support.

And now onto our gadgets of the week!

Here's a nightlight like no other! It's the LED Disco Party Night Light!

Here's what Amazon says about it.

The LED Disco Party Night Light plugs into a standard home wall outlet and projects a dazzling light show onto walls and ceilings. The Disco Party Night Light can create an instant party with an explosion of colors! Contains three 1 Watt LED (Light Emitting Diode) light sources and a motor to rotate the transparent prism projection dome top. Projected life is up to 8,000 hours.

The Giz Wiz adds: Some folks on Amazon said the light was smaller than they expected. Actually, I thought it was bit big to be called a nightlight, but the actual dimensions are listed as 2.5 x 2 x 4 inches. And for its size I would say the disco light projections are rather good. But as you'll see in the video, if you really want it light ceilings and walls, they are better choices, one of which is a light cheaper and a lot brigher. But as a gag gift for under $9, this is truly unqiue. Search Amazon for disco bulbs for a lot of choices.

An easy way to refill reusuable K-cups, EZ-Scoop

EZ-Scoop is a clever device that lets you dispense exactly the desired amount of coffee into your reusable coffee pods for single serve (like Keurig) machines. Reusuable K-cups let you use your own blend of coffee, determine the strength or your coffee, and can save you money. Fill the scoop end of the device with your favorite coffee blend and amount. (It holds up to two tablespoons), then use one finger to flip the funnel over the scoop. Now you're ready to dispense your coffee grounds into the refillable capsule without ground coffee going all over the counter or floor. For use with all Perfect Pod or other reusable coffee capsules. MSRP is $9.99, but it's available in many places like Amazon for under less.

Did I take my pills? And how many hours ago did I take them?

If you take pills, or even vitamins, those are probably questions you've asked yourself often. Well, here's an innovative way to help you keep track of when you last took your medications and vitamins. Called Timer Caps, they have a built-in stopwatch that keeps track of exactly how much time passed since it was last opened. The company says it boosts medication adherence by more than 33%. Instead of wondering if you took your pills or not, you'll know just by looking at the cap. It’s easy to use, with NO alarms to program or buttons to press. The patented timer works like an automatic stopwatch, every time you open the cap, the timer resets to zero. When you close the cap, the timer starts counting UP again displaying exactly how many hours and minutes have passed. Some Timer Caps convert between child resistant and non-child resistant. There is a wide variety of Timer Caps and prices. You can get them as low as about $4+ in quantities. The link below takes to the Amazon page that shows many choices.

Chad's Crappy Corner & Another 'Cheap Security Gadget' - His Theme For March, 2017

For this show Chad's picked two security gadgets. The first is the GE SmartHome Security Sign Yard Stake and Window Decals

Deter would-be intruders and secure your home, apartment or office with the GE SmartHome Security Sign Yard Stake and Window Decals. Place the security sign yard stake in the front of your home to give the illusion that your home is currently being monitored by a security system. The easy-to-read, realistic sign is composed of durable plastic that will not fade over time. Place the five security decals on windows in your home to protect vulnerable entry points and deter would-be intruders. Under $20.

Chad's Take? Chad liked this sign set. Although the listing showed the GE logo, the actual signs do not bear any company logo. Also Chad thought the plastic stake which mounts to the back of the sign and then sticks into the ground was very short. Chad also like the included Safety Monitoring stickers for the windows. All in all, Chad thought this was not a bad security item for a low cost.

Chad's second items was the SentrySafe P005C Compact SafeSafety.

The SentrySafe Compact Portable Safe is PRICED LOW! Safeguard firearms and other valuables with advanced technology! If you've got something you need to keep secure, this SentrySafe is an easy, economical and dependable way to do it! Peace of mind is now more reasonably priced than ever! Lock up for less: Steel construction; Locking steel cable secures Safe in vehicles; 3-digit combination lock is customizable to your own code; Large single hinge; Black powder-coat finish.; Measures 6 x 8 x 2 1/2"h., weighs 3 lbs.  MSRP: $15.00

And Chad's take: Chad liked this safe, especially for the money. I, and a lot of the folks in the chatroom guessed that it cost more than the low $15.00 price. But as you'll see in the video, Chad says this is good for a quick lock-up deterrent maybe at the beach or the office, but it's certainly not meant as a long term safe to protect real valuables. The locking steel cable looked strong, but Chad said make sure you mount it correctly to some immovable object. Finally, you see that it's easy to set your combination numbers. Again, for the price, Chad thought this was pretty good!

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

Our viewer video this week arrived with this email:

Hey Dick and Chad,

This actually kind of a weird one, because the item is very old, but it was actually bought brand new in February! It's my Tano Dragon home computer which is a computer introduced in 1984 but discontinued around 1986, and which had been sitting unsold in a warehouse for the past 31 years. It was quite an experience to open a fresh computer straight out of 1985! And after my order, they said they'd only got 7 of these left in stock. Unfortunately the website is currently down, but it might come up again sometime soon, so I figure I'll provide the link http://www.cadigital.com/computer.htm as well as an archive.org capture of the site from about when I bought my computer: http://web.archive.org/web/20170220125131/ http://cadigital.com/computer.htm Check out the totally 90s website design!

Anyways thanks for considering the submission, Andrew

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos!

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video!

IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
