The Giz Wiz Show 1678, June 8th 2018 Independent Show #161

The Giz Wiz Show recently started it's13th year or production, and it's fourth year of Independent Production!

That's thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. (As we can say honestly “asking for more Patreon supporters is not to make money”, it helps us lose less money doing The Giz Wiz. Thanks!)

And now onto the show! Three gadgets for the warm weather!

SkyGeniusis one brand of 12V Car Dual Cooling Fan for boats, back seats of cars, golf carts, anyplace some extra cool air is need. Although the description says 360° Rotatable Dual Heads, I find it's more like 180 degrees, but you can flip the fan over in its mounting to blow air in the opposite direction.  It does have 2 adjustable speeds, namely high and low. It's can be held in place with included Velcro Tape. It's described as quiet, and I'd say it's more like 'not that loud or annoying'. It did well on Amazon with 4.2 out of 5 stars from 109 customer reviews. I'm going to use it in the cabin of my small workboat which tends to get very hot in summer. The fan's equipped with a 12 volt cigarette plug for power. The copy for the fan also says: “Remove any smells and defrosts your windshield effectively.” I haven't tried either. When I bought mine it was $19.99, which I thought was a decent price. On 6/7/18 is was only available from 3rd party sellers for $50!!! No way is this worth $50 – BUT I found what looks like the identical fan for under $20.

Want to go camping and be able to cook some small meals?

Amazon says: Be Prepared for All Your Camping, Hiking or Backpacking Adventures and Equip Yourself with the #1 Camping Cookware Mess Kit, Outdoor Cooking Backpacking Gear & Camping Backpack and Hiking Picnic Set. (Yes, they love those endless titles.) I bought this kit just to see what it looked like in person and to make a video about it so you too could see if it lives up to its hype. Actually, I think the kit is very compact, and well made. I'm not sure you'll be making gourmet meals with it, but it's lightweight, packs into a small (included) nylon bag and might also be good just to have for emergencies. The company says the kit contains: FDA approved anodized aluminum pot and frying pan (non-stick surface) + one pot cover. Folding stainless steel spork, spoon, knife, and regular fork. 2 BPA Free bowls, Rice (or soup) ladle, loofah Sponge, carabiner to carry the kit, fire starter, and a mini-stove with Piezo ignition. Be sure to watch the video to see the size of these items, especially the stove, which is more like tiny, than mini. The complete kit was $24.99 when I bought mine late May 2018, and it was still that price on 6/8/18. Be aware, the exact same set is available for $34.99, so you don't want to pay an extra $10. Also there are cheaper versions on Amazon which do not include the stove, so you have option too.

Luggable Loo - turns a 5-gallon bucket into a 'Loo'.

This is a great gadget to keep in anyplace you may need an emergency loo (head, toilet, potty, john, etc.) The Luggable Loo is a molded snap-on toilet seat and cover. I have a 5 gallon bucket on my boat to store lines and used the simple snap-on feature to secure Luggable Loo onto it. The toilet seat has a nice cover so it doesn't look like a portable toilet. The company says it converts any standard size five-gallon/19-liter pail into a portable toilet. I didn't need to use it, but I'm happy to have a Luggable Loo seat aboard my boat for emergencies. My 23' work boat does not have its own head. (Toilet.) You can find Luggable Loo with its own 5 gallon pail on Amazon for about $20 or less with a web search.  It's probably even cheaper to buy your own 5 gallon bucket/pail at Home Depot or Lowes and snap on Luggable Loo when you need it. I saw 5 gallon buckets at Lowes for about $5. Actually, you may already own a 5 gallon pail from past jobs around the house.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His New Theme For June.

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members and asked them to vote on his cheap theme for June. Their choice was “Cheap Summer Fun” gadgets!

Chad's first Cheap Summer Fun gadget is Little Kids Candylicious Bubbles with Wand- they're bubbles you blow and eat!

Here's what Amazon says about them: Blowing and catching bubbles have always been a fun activity. Now they also taste delicious with these great new bubbles by Little Kids. You can still blow tons of bubbles, but now you can create these great burst-able tasty spheres and pop them with your tongue. Each includes a characterized "Bubble Ninja" wand, and a scrumptious packet 20ML of bubble solution in the following flavors: Cherry, Grape, Bubble Gum, and Tutti-Frutti. Blow'em! Catch 'em! Eat 'em! Candylicious bubbles are made in the USA with FDA approved ingredients. Candylicious bubbles are non-toxic. The bubble solution contains no dyes and does not stain. Candylicious bubbles blow great bubbles, just like regular bubbles. The difference is the taste! Candylicious bubbles are delicious!

And Chad's take: Chad liked these. You'll see him catch several on his tongue in this week's video. The one flavor Chad did not like was Chocolate. He said he tasted chemical-like. Chad bought his at Target for $3 a package.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

Our viewer video this week arrived with this email:

Hi Dick and Chad,

This is my Gadget Warehouse submission for a gadget called the Olympia Soundbug. As I said in the video, "it's not great, but it's interesting," which sounds like the perfect Gadget Warehouse criteria to me.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

From: Adam Jakowenko

Subject: Re: My favorite gadget

Just thought I'd let you guys know that the Oxo mouthwash dispenser I sent a video about a few weeks ago is down to only $9.99 on Amazon! I'm so glad I waited to buy a bunch of them as Christmas gifts...I just went on a shopping spree now that it's basically 10 bucks. Also, I thought I'd add a little tip in case you weren't familiar with Honey Chrome extension. The way I found out that the price had dropped to $10 was the "Honey" extension, which integrates itself into the Amazon page for any product (see attached screenshot) and shows you not only the price history of the product (so you can see historically what the prices were) but also lets you subscribe to price drop notifications, which Honey will monitor for 60 days for you. You can set the notification preferences, and then Honey will email you as soon as it sees the price go down. So a couple days ago I got an email from Honey saying the price had dropped to $9.99 and I went right to Amazon to buy a bunch of them. Note that because Amazon prices can fluctuate day to day (or sometimes even more often than that), it's possible that by the time you see your Honey notification the Amazon price has gone back up. This has happened to me once or twice, but by and large it works great as long as you check your email at least once or twice a day. In this case, the mouthwash dispenser has been down to $9.99 for over 4 days and counting, so maybe this is the new regular price.

Link below of how to use Honey with Amazon. Can I use Honey on Amazon? - Honey

From the Giz Wiz: Unfortunately the $9.99 price is over. It lasted about a week. But that Honey app can inform you if it drops again once you install it and tell it your preferences.
