The Giz Wiz Show 1684, July 20th 2018 Independent Show #167

The Giz Wiz Show recently started it's13th year or production, and it's fourth year of Independent Production! (The first show was February 20th, 2006.) That's thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. (As we can say honestly “asking for more Patreon supporters is not to make money”, it helps us lose less money doing The Giz Wiz. Thanks!)

Okay, it's July, time to think about holiday shopping!

Here are four new gadgets from the New Product Holiday Media Event, a first look at holiday gift giving ideas. Sure it's only July, but it's good to know what's out there & going to be out there soon. First something new and unexpected from Swiffer.

What's that I smell? Nothing! It's just clean, fresh air!

(Info from the company.) The Swiffer Continuous Clean Air Cleaning System is the air purifier specifically designed to help keep room surfaces cleaner, giving you more time to enjoy your clean home before needing to clean again. Clean less often with this revolutionary new room cleaner. By continuously circulating and filtering airborne dust and dirt, it prevents them from settling on your furniture, so you can go longer between cleanings. Many consumers don’t run their current devices all day because of the disrupting sound it makes while working. That’s why the Swiffer air purifier operates in near silence, perfect for living rooms, bedrooms, and nurseries. Patented Swiffer technology uses Triple Layer Filtration to Trap and Lock away dirt, dust and allergens* throughout the room. Great for pets! AND KEEP COSTS LOW with replacement filters that sell for a fraction of the cost of more expensive HEPA filters. Package contains Swiffer Continuous Clean Air Cleaning Unit and 2 Continuous Clean Triple Layer Filters. Average filter life is 30 days of use. SPECIAL BONUS PACK includes 2 additional bonus filters, for a total of 4 filters. * Inanimate allergens from dust mite matter and pet dander. ---  Just 20 reviews so far on Amazon since it's new, but it's doing well with 4.6 stars out of 5 stars.

Here are two gadgets that has been around for many years. But Newell Brands, the company that produces both of these gadgets has added a new twist to each of them. One of them is available now, one will be out sometime in August, 2018. Here's info from Newell:

I haven't shopped here, but this Amazon retailer has the knife block set for half the MSRP: https://amzn.to/2uCYz0w

This second product comes out in August, but here's info from the company: Oster Hand Mixer with HeatSoft Technology. Bake fluffier goodies faster! The only place I saw this on Amazon was asking $99.99, $30 ABOVE the MSRP. That I'm sure will change August 2018 when it's actually available.

Great for when you use Citibike or any of the other quick bike services.

It's probably not convenient to carry a full-sized bike helmet with you, and in many places wearing wear is the law! That's where this Foldaway Bicycle Helmet could come in handy. I was going to talk about this find it on next week's show but then I got a notice from Hammacher Schlemmer who sells the helmet that is was on sale for 1/3 off. So I moved it into this show. Here's info from the Hammacher about this neat gadget: This is the bicycle helmet that folds to 1/3 of its size for easy storage in a backpack or purse. Its unique design allows it to easily fold by unlocking its hinges, then sliding and flipping its four different sections. It has a durable ABS outer shell and an inner shell made of expanded polystyrene foam for enhanced protection. Three included pad sets enable one to adjust the helmet’s fit. With 14 ventilation holes, adjustable straps, and chin protector. Folded 8" L x 6 1/2" W x 4 1/2" D, unfolded 10" L x 8 1/2" W x 5" D. Black. Chad's Crappy Corner & His New Theme For July, 2018

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members and asked them to vote on his new cheap theme for July. We find out on this episode what their choice was Cheap Clearance Sale Gadgets!

Chad's third “on clearance sale gadget” this month is the Vino Pop Wine Opener Set.

It's $18.50 on Amazon, but Chad got his on clearance for just $10. Here's what Vino Popsays about their Wine Opener Set on Amazon: No More Struggling & Broken Corks! Vino Pop harnesses the power of air to “pop” the cork right out of the bottle without any damage. Guaranteed! Never break a cork again! Vino Pop has a stainless steel and poly-carbonate guard, and a pin in the middle that prevents you (or anyone else!) from stabbing yourself. The Air Rise Technology perfectly pushes the entire cork up and out of the bottle doing all of the work for you. The kit includes: 1 Vino Pop Wine Opener, 1 Wine Sealer, 1 Foil Cutter, 1 Organizing Pouch.

And Chad's take: You'll see Chad use it for the first time live on the show, and it worked perfectly. Looking at the reviews on Amazon, others didn't have the same luck. But for $10, this was a 'not so crappy' crappy corner device!

https://amzn.to/2uCegVG Amazon affiliate link. Look at other options on the page, there is a huge variety of these devices some as low as $11 as of 7/20/18

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

-

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

From: Steve Miller To Chad:

Could you please send me more info on the small red tripod you mentioned a couple of weeks ago. It looks like a really sturdy piece of equipment. I’ve been an amateur photographer for about 50 years. I’ve also been listening to the gizwiz since about 6 months after Dick and Leo started the net cast. I’ve been a Patreon contributor since you started funding through that platform. Thanks for all the gadgets and entertainment.

On this show Chad shows us that tripod again and explains its features - a lot of them for under $41.00.

The tripod is at this affiliate link on Amazon (you may the same as everyone else, we get a tiny credit to buy more stuff)
