It's Here! The New (not) Improved Giz Wiz Netcast!

A New Giz Wiz Netcast!

We're Red, White and Black & Blue as we unfurl a new Giz Wiz!

We recorded the first of the new Giz Wiz shows live at the brick TWiT House on Tuesday, July 24th. Yes, I was in Petaluma, missing the Chicken & Egg Parade by just a few months! .....Our new show picks up the Giz Wiz numbering, so it's episode 1374. After brainstorming with the entire team for a month we finally came up calling our new show The Giz Wiz! (Actually, it only took 3 weeks to come up that.)

More gadgets, more madness, your videos, audience requests and zero trans-fats! What more could you ask for, except maybe some entertainment.

So listen and/or watch the NEW Giz Wiz!

The first one is online now! Click the link under any of the gadgets we talked about on the show.

The Giz Wiz for the week of July 24th, 2012, Netcast 1374.

Watch your home TV on your mobile devices as you travel.

I loved my Slingbox. That was until Belkinannounced their new @TV Plus. Yep, it’s a new, improved way to stream video from your home cable box to your tablet, your smart phone, or your laptop. It can stream via Wi-Fi or via a 3G/4G cell connection. (But you better have an unlimited data plan for that!) It has no HDMI connection, but Component and composite cables are included. And it lets you connect and control multiple devices like your digital cable box, satellite receiver, or DVD player. More features than the Slingbox Pro-HD $149 vs. $299. @TV Plus is Wi-Fi enabled, so you're not limited by a wired Ethernet connection. I hooked my @TV Plus to my cable box and it works on my desktop, my Samsung Note and my Motorola Droid 4. A feature I just tried is really great! If you’re busy when something you want to see is on the air, you can record it TV directly to your mobile device. That way you can view it when you’re not near WiFi, or you’re not connected to your cell data network. I’m thinking it would be to ideal to record movies while you’re at home connected to your WiFi and then enjoy them on the road, or in the air. Other features include access to your local area channel guide and control of your at-home cable box remote on the go. It works with Mac and Windows PCs, Android, and iOS devices. There are no monthly service fees, but you do have to pay a one-time $14.99 charge for the @TV smart phone app. The tablet app is free. Depending on when you’re reading this, the smart phone app is free until midnight July 25th, 2012. The @TVdevice itself just started shipping. Price: $179.99.

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E430 - a business computer with style.

I spoke to the folks at Lenovo about the ThinkPad Edge E430 Notebook Computer. Lenovo said the Edge is a good computer for a student or a business. It’s a touch fancier than their all-out business machines, at a very attractive price. The Edge E430 is a 14" notebook computer that weighs 4.7 pounds. It’s also 13% thinner than earlier models. I like the soft matte coating because it has a nice tech look without all the fingerprints. The 14" LED wide screen display use less power and provide clear, bright image.  The 16:9 aspect ratio screen offers 1366 x 768 native resolution supported by integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000. The anti-glare coating allows you to use this Lenovo notebook in bright rooms or outdoors in the sunlight. I found this works well, but is not perfect in really bright sunlight. The system is powered by a dual-core 2.5GHz Intel Core i5-2450M processor. It also has 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 500GB 7200rpm hard drive, a 20GB mSATA solid state drive, a SuperMulti DVD burner, 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, an integrated webcam and digital microphone. It also has built-in stereo speakers. Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) is the installed operating system. The integrated 720p HD webcam is designed to work even in low-lit conditions and it works pretty well. And if you have to type while video conferencing, Lenovo’s keyboard noise suppression technology makes sure you won’t be heard. The ThinkPad Edge E430 sells at BH Photo for just under $687.00

Who would steal a ratty old manila envelope?

New from the SpoonSisters website is the Undercover Tablet Edition. It's the perfect size to hold a Kindle or iPad. Here's the scoop from their website: There was a time when only Moses had a tablet, but now everyone does. You can’t get on a train, subway, airplane or bus these days without seeing someone surfing the web on the go. Here’s about the most thief-thwarting, styleless conscious solution to the issue of tablet-transport we’ve ever seen. What looks like a used, rumpled padded envelope that no one would ever think of snatching, is actually made of strong PE foam construction with a tough outer layer of tyvek (think FedEx envelope). It’s shock protected, splash proof, writable and tearproof. Now faithful traveling tablet companion can be safe and sound in your bag when you’re not using it disguised as nothing more than a battered old envelope! Fits ipad of course, and most tablets. $22.95. It should be available for pre-order on their website now.

Leo’s Turn The Table Turkey – or Turn The Table Treasure?

Leo's very buggy (and YUCKY) Turn The Table Turkey! Another mail-in from Beckee W!

I’m glad Leo did these because I hate bugs! Here’s the Lunch Bug Bags description from the web:

Lunch Bug Bags by Fred Studios

Whether your favorite brownbagger is full-grown or pint-size, here’s a way you can add some zing to their lunch break— just pack their meals in Lunch Bugs, the sandwich bags with a supersized creepy-crawly printed right on it. These reusable zip-to-lock storage bags are big enough for a two-handed sandwich, or bagels & scream cheese. Lunch Bugs are also a fool-proof anti-theft device if your office is plagued with freeloading fridge raiders. Guaranteed to put an end to lunchroom larceny! You get 24 Bags, 7.25” x 8.25” each. I saw them here for under $6, but I haven’t bought anything at this website.
