Giz Wiz Show 1604 for January 6th, 2017, Our 88th Independent Production

Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters The Giz Wiz Show not only continues, but is well into its 2nd year of independent production. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/  You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support. And now, on the show!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY! We had a New Year's Eve party at Gizneyland with 3 live folks, including The Giz Wiz, and almost 200 virtual guests. Most of the event is here: (camera said: 'shutting down to cool off' and then shut off)  2https://twitter.com/thegizwiz/status/81541819720981299

The end of the party is here, recorded on another phone (Galaxy S5) which doesn't have the better camera that is on the Galaxy S6 we used for part one. https://www.periscope.tv/thegizwiz/1djxXZYrANkGZ?t=6

I'm at CES in Las Vegas to find the latest off-beat gadgets and gizmos. This is the 50th anniversary of CES and they made a little video of how gadgets have changed over the years.

A Peek At CES's Past: http://www.cesbroll.com/

And on this week's show A Peek Ahead At CES 2017

There are a lot of air purifiers in the market place, and they're all designed to do what they're named for. If you live in a big city, which usually offers a wide variety of pollutants, you might want one. I live in New York City and use an older Oreck Professional which I use to help clean the air in my bedroom, and also as a 'white noise' machine for sleep. At CES 2017, there's a new kid on the window-sill called Sprimo. Normally, this would be a 'who cares' kind of gadget, but it does something that no other air purifier does (that I know of). After you use the Sprimo for a while, you can send the company your used filter so they can test it to find out what irritants or particles are in the air you breathe. If you have health issues, this hopefully could be very helpful. Sprimo is WiFi and Bluetooth enabled and has a variable speed fan and other features you can control from your phone. It can be set to purify the air in your room, or just your personal space. Like the Oreck, which has a retail price of about $400, the Sprimo is expected to be priced in the $325 to $400. range. But, I don't know exact sales plan yet, because it was on Crowd Supply, a crowdfunding website, and did not get the funding they were looking for. So they're have new plans at CES 2017. There's more info and a video here:

You may own a clothes washer & a clothes dryer, but I bet you don't own an automatic clothes folder.

If you own a home, a washer and dryer is most likely standard equipment. They makes two jobs pretty easy. But then comes folding the clean clothes, not a particularly hard job, but a boring, time consuming one. Well now (or soon) they'll be something new to help with that! The name of the American company is FoldiMate, so that gives you a pretty good idea of what their product does. At three-feet-high this robotic folding machine is probably not good for appartments, but perfect bigger families who have space, or even a dedicated laundry room. The company says the FoldiMate will take crumpled shirts, tops and trousers and not only fold them, but help them look neater with a bit of steam to get rid of wrinkles. This isn't inexpensive, and is is expected to cost between $700 and $850. Considering it's said to take only ten seconds to fold each item and that it can fold 15 to 20 pieces of clothing and deliver it at the bottom of the machine, neatly piled up, it could be worth it. (Evidently this company is not brand new in this area and have been making a commercial version for the past few years, so it makes sense for them to bring their know how to the home market.

Meet Tappy, The Contactless Payment System.

A press release for CES 2017 says: Meet Tappy. Tappy is delighted to present its innovative and user-friendly product design to the watch and jewelry market. It is believed that as contactless payment becomes popular and common from an acceptance point of view, more end-users will be looking for such stylish wearables enabling them to pay in a quick, secure and convenient way.

There's a video on their website explaining Tappy’s contactless payment use and benefits from saving time for payment each time. And the steps to get started using it. The big problem is of course to get companies to build Tappy into their product. I'll know better when I'm at CES how many companies they've signed on. In the meantime you can learn more here:

Chad's Crappy Corner & His New Theme For January, 2017

If you're a long time fan of the show, you know there's a standing joke about 'The Toothpick Bird'. It started when Leo Laporte made his toothpick bird the 'gadget of the day” on the show. Well this week Chad's new theme is 'Giving Back'. He's showing gadgets he got as gifts. Then as you'll see in the show, he'll pick out a gadget he used on the show and send it to one of our loyal Patreon supporter picked at random. Chad's gadget this week is the Fashionable Cute Pet Automatic Plastic Toothpick Holder/Dispenser.

Here's some of what Amazon says about it: Have you ever been in need of a toothpick and you didn’t know where to find one? What if it was right there on the table or counter for you at any time you needed it? What if it was dispensed from a cute and fashionable pet designed toothpick holder? This isn’t some cheap novelty item. We’re talking about a fully functional and fashionable item that will have all of your friends and family asking where you got it. As you can see, this cute pet automatic plastic toothpick holder is the best way to dispense toothpicks. Chad paid about $12.

And Chad's take: Chad liked this a lot and so did the chatroom. As you'll see in the video, it works very well. Just push down on the head of the cute plastic panda and a toothpick is dispensed out through his mouth. Chad even demonstrated that it works well when the Panda is down to the last few toothpicks. It holds 100 toothpicks which are not included. It's green although it looks like other colors might be available.

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos!

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video!

IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
