Giz Wiz Show #1552 for Jan 8th, 2016 - our 36th Independently Produced Giz Wiz Show

Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters The Giz Wiz Show continues into 2016!

If you'd like to support OMGChad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves) just click the Patreon link at the top of this link: http://www.gizwiz.tv/. You can also contribute just once via PayPal there too. And thank you! Our show wouldn't exist with our viewer's support.

LED's --- 300 of them!! Ready to be mounted just about place.

The complete title of these LED lights I bought on Amazon is: SUPERNIGHT 16.4ft 5M Waterproof Flexible 300leds Color Changing RGB SMD5050 LED Light Strip Kit with RGB 5M +24Key Remote+12V Power Supply. Here are a few of the other specs: 16 colors, 5 light patterns: Static/Flash/Strobe/Fade-change/RGB Smooth-change/Static Mode Dim Control - 16-Speeds Control in Flash / Strobe / Fade-change / RGB Smooth-change. Every 3-LEDS are cuttable without damaging the rest strips. Self-adhesive back. Long lifespan >50,000 hours. Package contents: 16.4” 5050 RGB 300leds 1x IR Control Box 1x 24 key remote control 1x Power Supply. …...And now back to me. As you'll see in the video, you get a lot of LED's for your money, but not a lot of reliability. The LED's often don't light the way you expect them too, or sometimes not at all, unless you hit the remote control a bunch of times. Reviews online range from 'amazing' to 'crap'. I think it all boils down to how much luck you have with the set you get. After doing the video, I bought a second set with a better remote control and it does work better. (There's a link below.) Make sure you buy the 'waterproof' version, make sure you buy the 5050 LED's, and make sure your set includes the power supply. I was wondering how could it be the second set I bought had a better remote control for almost the same price as the original set. Turns out it's sold without a power supply. Fortunately, the power supply from my first set works perfectly for my later purchase. Watch the video for more tips on what to look for and what problems you might have.

Scramble an egg, in its shell!

In keeping with Amazon's love of giving products long names, here comes the DOB Hand Powered Golden Egg Shaker Egg Scrambler Beater. Scrambles Eggs Without Breaking The Shell. And here's more about this device from Amazon: Creative and magical product-Golden Egg Shaker, made by ABS. UFO-style streamlined design, which is safe, light and practical.

Product features:

1. The high-quality rope and non-toxic odor food-grade silicone liner,100% safe to use.

2. The shaker handle is circle, unique arc to avoid the use of friction caused by the opponent, and enhance the use of comfort.

3. The egg cradle is designed to fit eggs of all shapes and sizes. Awesome item.

4. High density and strength nylon rope, ABS plastic non-toxic odor shell,100% safe to use.

And The Giz Wiz adds: We tried to use this device with a jumbo egg and we ended up cracking it. So probably stick to a small variety. The badly translated instructions are ridiculous, but you'll learn a bit more about using it from watching our video. It's just about $20 on Amazon where it got pretty good reviews. Actually $19.45 (as of 1/1/16) and Amazon Prime, so free shipping for members.

And now back to me, the Giz Wiz. Well it did work, but we found it's really not meant for the Jumbo eggs we bought. Also the instructions are beyond comprehenion in many cases because they're so badly translated. Finally, if you want to spend $20 to scramble an egg in a shell, this device does work.

If you're handy, maybe you can make your own. One that scrambles three eggs in their shells. I haven't tried this, but I found the video online:

Jambanz - wear a Bluetooth speaker on your arm.

Here's how the company puts it: Jambanz are the safe alternative to headphones. Jambanz wearable bluetooth speakers let your music move with you – whether jogging, biking, skateboarding or playing outside. Jambanz wirelessly plays audio from your iPod touch™, iPad™, iPhone™ or bluetooth Android device to your wrist, backpack, belt, handlebars, lamp… whatever you slap it to! --But wait, there's more --- Jambanz silicone slap bands let you switch the speaker with other bands to mix-n-match or collect and trade with friends. And Jambanz are USB rechargeable, so there’s never any batteries to buy. (A full charge will last 2 to 4 hours depending on the volume. Hopefully you won't play it loud enough to annoy others.) And you want Jambanz version 2.0. It features Bluetooth 4.0 with extended range, built-in microphone for taking calls, improved sound, and new colors and styles. So now you'll be able to answer phone calls over the speakerphone. I agree with the company that Jambanz is a safer alternative to headphones, which can block out surrounding dangers and potentially cause hearing damage. Just don't play it too loudly. Actually, for it size, the sound is very decent. MSRP is $32.99. The earlier model was $29.99, but you want version 2.0 for just about $3 more.

Chad's Crappy Corner and a brand new theme for January.

Chad emailed our loyal (and much appreciated) Patreon supporters and asked them to pick a January, 2016 theme of the month they would like to see. They voted and picked 'Christmas Gifts'.

Chad showed two gadgets he received as gifts. Open-It was first. Here's some info from Amazon on OpenIt. No other opening tool performs this many tasks. Snip it! Cut it! Unscrew it! Slice it! Pop it! Opens sealed plastic packaging, toy packaging, electronics packaging, boxes, twist and zip ties, shipping tape, duct tape, CDs, DVDs, ribbon, twine, blister packs, plastic wraps, letters, mail pouches and much more. Patented offset jaws for safety and ease of cutting. Retractable utility knife cuts easily through plastic wrapping and paper. Removable double ended mini screwdriver is convenient for opening battery compartments. Even includes bottle opener.

Chad showed us how the offset jaws of the OpenIt let him cut through a blister pack with ease. (That was after a bit of hassle to get the Open-It out its own packaging!) I actually have three Open-Its and they work well. My only compliant is that little plastic latch that keeps the jaws closed break off very easily. All 3 on broken on my Open-Its. Since Chad just opened his tonight, he'll open up later in the month after he gets to use it a little more.

No longer available at the link we provided.

Chad's second gadget was perfect for the new year. We had both opened a bottle of champagne when we recorded our last show of 2015 on New Year's Eve. Neither one of us finished the bottles of champagne, so Chad had a perfect way to test his second Christmas gift of the night. It's the Winco Champagne Bottle Stopper. (Or as close as Chad could find on Amazon that matched the one he got as a gift. Amazon says their Bar and Wine Series champagne Stopper is great for unfinished bottles of champagne by allowing the champagne to retain its freshness and flavor longer. Chad put it good use right away on his unfinished bottle of champagne from New Year's Eve. Three days later when we recorded our next Giz Wiz show Chad poured champagne from the opened bottle and it looked as fizzy as can be on camera. Looks like the Winco Champagne Bottle Stopper did a really good job. And they're cheap. Under $4 for one, or under $5 for a set of two with free shipping. Not Amazon Prime and the free shipping looks like 3 to 4 weeks. After Chad's demo that you'll see for yourself in this week's show impressed me so much I already bought two.

*********

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos! We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

My Favorite Gadget of All Time: Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video! IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Subject: Hiding License Plates

I get behind on the show sometimes, but I saw the hiding license plate site and had a thought to contribute.

I have seen this application used at car shows before. Either it can be lowered and hidden or just covered up for a cleaner lines during the show.

Here is an example of one that I saw this past summer. You'll note that the plate has been lowered and hidden under the vehicle.

Love the Show! Patron Tim Hopkins
