Giz Wiz Show #1553 for Jan 15th, 2016 - our 37th Independently Produced Giz Wiz Show

Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters The Giz Wiz Show continues into 2016!

If you'd like to support OMGChad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves) just click the Patreon link at the top of this link: http://www.gizwiz.tv/.  You can also contribute just once via PayPal there too. And thank you! Our show wouldn't exist with our viewer's support.

The rest of January is all CES 2016 gadgets I found at the show!

How's this for amazing. A webcam that lets you monitor the breathing of person who could be thousands of miles away. Or just at home while you're at work!

Here's a look ahead at the Onelink by First Alert Envirocam with a non-contact respiration monitor. It is brand new and expected to be available around third quarter, which translates to 'in the fall of 2016'. Tom Russo, the vice president of marketing at First Alert, (and the gentlemen in the video on this show) thinks that this will be the top product on everybody's baby registry list. In addition to monitoring for low levels of carbon monoxide which infants, pregnant women and the elderly are more susceptible to, it monitors for drastic temperature and humidity changes in the room. So in addition to being a 1080P hi def video camera and also a non-contact respiration monitor. The camera can pan, tilt and zoom and when it is aiming at a person within 15 feet of it in the room, it monitors breathing and will send push notifications if there is a change in the breathing pattern. It can even monitor more than one person at a time. The price is not set, but a good guess is probably in the $400 to $500 range since it can do so much. Here's the link to other Onelink by First Alert devices.

The under $100 Windows 10 machine!

It's the Kangaroo, the world’s smallest personal, portable PC. It has a lot of features, especially for a PC only about the size of a large smart phone. In addition to Windows 10, it offers a Windows Hello fingerprint reader, Bluetooth, WiFi, and an integrated battery. By connecting the Kangaroo to a mouse, keyboard and monitor, or to an iPad, a user can access all Windows 10 desktop programs and files. It's powered by a Intel Cherrytrail (Z8500) processor and has 32GB of memory, along with a micro SD card slot to add more. The included Kangaroo Dock has port access for HDMI and USB, with one 2.0 and one 3.0 USB port available. Users simply connect a Kangaroo Dock to existing screens and devices – from PC monitors and big screen TVs all the way to projectors via the HDMI out port. Four hours of “casual battery use” (whatever that means) makes the Kangaroo better than PC sticks that can't operate away from power. But wait, there's more! There's also WiFi, Bluetooth, plus something something they call a hardware Action Switch. That allows users to gain direct access to the Windows 10 desktop even when there is no WiFi. You can buy an additional Kangaroo dock for $39. That way you can leave the extra dock connected at the office and just transport the Kangaroo unit itself in pocket or backpack. It's available at Newegg.com the Microsoft Store Online and retail locations for $99.00. To learn more about Kangaroo visit

AromaCare, the world's 1st connected essential oil diffuser.

As you'll see in the CES Pepcom video on this week's show, Laurent Moy, CEO of AromaCare, (PhD in Medicinal Chemistry) feels that over-medication is increasing worldwide. As a result he says, people are turning in greatly increased numbers to alternative medicine. More from Laurent Moy: Aromatherapy is a complementary natural alternative use of essential oils for therapeutic purposes. The essential oils are extracted from plants by distillation and provide natural positive health benefits for the user. Aromatherapy has been around a long time but its use has always been complicated. Which oil to use for which ailment? How to administer it? How many drops? How long should it be diffused? Etc ... With AromaCare, aromatherapy becomes accessible to everyone! AromaCare is the world’s first WiFi-enabled, fully connected essential oil diffuser! Each capsule contains only essential oils encapsulated in microbeads. A capsule allows thirty 20-minute aromatherapy sessions. These six blends each impact the following highly-specialized needs: sleep, calm, tonic, memory, breath, allergy. You can see the breakdown of what scents are used in each of the six blends at their Kickstarter site. There, you can also see how the project is going. As of 1/13/16 you can order one for about $65.00 via their Kickstarter project.

Chad's Crappy Corner and another holiday gift he received.

Chad emailed our loyal (and much appreciated) Patreon supporters and asked them to pick a January, 2016 theme of the month they would like to see. They voted and picked 'Chad's Christmas Gifts'. This week Chad's gift is the Car Mount TechMatte MagGrip CD Slot Magnetic Universal Car Mount Holder for Smartphones.

Here's what Amazon says about it: The TechMatte MagGrip CD Slot Car Mount is a sturdy, cradle-less, attractive device holding system focused on simplicity. Simply place the included slim, MagGrip plate inside the case of your device and insert the MagGrip CD Slot Car Mount into the CD player slot on your car. The strong magnetic surface of the mount will ensure that your device is secure, while the cradle-less feature enables you to completely view your device without any distracting arms and holders - Designed with Drivers in Mind. Compatible with almost all smartphones. (models are listed on Amazon) Note: The metal plate/sticker may affect the wireless charging for some devices. Weight: 4.0 oz (113 g). It's $10.99 and Amazon Prime (as of 1/13/16)

And Chad's take:

Chad liked this device a lot. As you'll see in the video, it's easy to install and it holds his phone securely, even over bumps in the road. Someone in the chatroom asked if you can still play CD's with the MegaGrip in place, and Chad said you can't. But as someone else in the chatroom pointed out, there's now a use for the CD player since most people rely on digital media for their music, not CD's.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

This is a different kind of viewer video. It's not an original video a viewer emailed us, but a link to a YouTube video. Turns out the gadget in the video is so interesting I thought it would be fun to share it with our Giz Wiz audience. Here's the email and the video link:

Hey Dick and Chad! I came across a video on YouTube about a neat gadget called a protopiper. It is a tape gun turned into a prototyping machine. I have included a link to the YouTube video. The video will explain what this gadget does.

Here is the link to the video:

Thanks, Joe Isgrigg aKaJoE

The link at the YouTube location was a 404 error for me. But there is more info here:

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos! We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

My Favorite Gadget of All Time: Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video! IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

Sam Abuelsamid

Hey Dick and Chad

I was just listening to Giz Wiz 1151 and you mentioned that it was one year ago that Chad started hosting the show with Dick. In fact, Chad took over full time on Jan 8, 2014 with episode 1450 https://twit.tv/shows/weekly-daily-giz-wiz/episodes/1450?autostart=false making it two years

keep up the great work!  Sam Abuelsamid
