CES Preview. Giz Wiz for week of January 8th, 2013, Show 1398.

Now your phone charging cable can also be a high-tech stand!

Here’s a USB charging cable that can multi-task! The Une Bobine is a flexible and eclectic stand, sync, and charge cable for iPhone and Android. It’s a clever idea. Take a charging cable and wrapp it in a flexible, metal coil heavy enough to support the weight of the phone. That means your charging cable becomes a unique dock, stand, and tripod. Une Bobine comes in versions for both iPhone (30 Pin and new iPhone5 cable) and Micro USB. There’s a 2 foot long Une Bobine and a 1 foot long Petite Bobine. So now you can replace your traditional dock and charger with a charger cable/stand that can be positioned for whatever you like. Place your phone at eye level for video calls and FaceTime. Use it in the kitchen to hold your phone for recipe viewing. Or use it to hold your phone steady for photography and videography. It’s also great when you want to use your phone for viewing movies on a desk, or a snack tray aboard an airplane. Une Bobine was originally a Kickstarter Crowd Funding Project. The original goal was a sum of $10,000. They had $212,265 pledged! Une Bobine for iPhone or MicroUSB: $30. Petite Bobine for iPhone or MicroUSB: $28.

Video of the Week -- A new product that will be shown by the inventor at CES.

What does Node do? The inventor says you should think of Node as an electronic Swiss army knife. It’s about the size of a roll of quarters and it can sense and measure things in the world around you. Node uses Bluetooth to communicate with your phone and bring that information to life. This one device can serve as: An accelerometer / A gyroscope / A magnetometer / A barometer / A thermometer / A tool that measures altitude / A light meter / A heat-mapping device, and even a humidity sensor. That’s what it can do so far. Lots of tools are in the works, including the newest release, a node that measures color. The inventor says Node can even serve as a secondary, external flash for iPhone photography. Node was started in a living room and launched on Kickstarter. The company is now working with NASA and the Department of Homeland Security to develop specific applications for them. The technology is built on an open API platform, allowing developers to invent an infinite number of things for Node to do. Here are the basics of each NODE: Arduino compatible, Lithium Polymer battery (650 mAh), 12-14 hours battery life with continuous Bluetooth use, 2 MB memory, 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis magnetometer, 3-axis gyroscope, Audio buzzer, Bluetooth 2.1 or Bluetooth Low Energy, 2 module ports, 2 dimmable blue LEDs, micro-USB for charging and firmware programming. Node is $149.00. Modules are $25 to $75 each. There’s a lot more info and videos at the company website.

A new line of wall and 12 volt universal chargers from Ventev.

If you’re a road warrior you probably carry lot of different chargers for your various mobile devices. Yep, I’m talking about tablets, smartphones, e-readers, etc. Help’s on the way via Ventev’s new super-compact, nicely designed universal chargers that can charge all your USB devices, one or two at a time depending on the model. Charge your iPhone at the same time as your iPad from the same charger, and at the fastest rate possible. Ventev’s “Dashport” and “Wallport” chargers are small devices that feature a no-slip matte finish. Each comes in a one-of-a-kind, easy-to-open clear tube that is re-closable – no scissors, no ripping, no waste. And here’s a hint. The tubes open from the bottom. After thinking: “this tube is easy to open??” I suddenly thought – oh, maybe the tube opens from the bottom, not the top! Yep, that’s the secret to the easy-open package. The Dashport is a line of 12-volt chargers for vehicles. They feature illuminated USB ports, and all come with choice of vibrantly colored flat (no tangle!) cables. Depending on the model, they range in price from $20 to $35.00.

Gadget Warehouse Time! And it's another interesting viewer's video! (Learn how to submit yours at the bottom.)

This video started with an email to us:

Hey Dicky De and Leo!

You may remember me from such episodes as Prank Packs gifted TWiT bricks (1350), Turn the Table "Turkey Feathers" (1374) or a personally delivered Sky Mall catalog with picks to boot (1385).
Today I present you all with my first YouTube video (unedited, of course)  entitled "Memories Across Time & Space" This is a reflection of gadgets that I had while working in this department many years ago which came back to greet me during my second tour of duty. I purchased these tools in 1983 only to see them again in my next regeneration in 2005, not only across time but space as this office and lab moved from its original location to a newly constructed building on the campus (2001).

We love showing videos from our fans!We just might show one of yours too, but you need to send it to us first! Here's how:.

Want to be a part of The Giz Wiz Show? Then submit your own video!

Here's what we're looking for:

Your home made Videos -- two to three minutes long - in the any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap! Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

I Invented This! Do you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions.

My Gadget Warehouse! Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

My favorite gadget of all time! Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it!

Post them on YouTube and send our producer, Jason, the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long. Low production value is fine. Even welcomed; so our stuff doesn't look too bad by comparison. We've set the bar low. Don't trip over it.

All show submissions go to gizwiz@twit.tv
