My favorite gadget from Showstoppers 2012.

The new Stack-and-Shred paper shredders from Swingline get my vote for the best device I saw at Showstoppers. I have so many checks, statements, tax returns, etc. stuck in file drawers waiting until I find time to shred them. With the Stack-and-Shred you don’t have to sit there and feed them in 1 or 10 or 20 pages at a time. You don’t have to feed them at all!  With this device you stack papers to be shredded in the feeder, almost the same way you load paper into the printer tray. Then shut the lid and move on to other chores. The Hands Free Auto+ technology automatically rolls and feeds paper into the cutters for you. You don’t have to be there to do anything. A spokesperson told me the shredder works slower, which means it’s much quieter and much less likely to jam. The Stack-and-Shred shredders not only shred paper, but also staples, paperclips and credit cards. There are various larger models that can shred 60, 80, 100, 250 or 500 sheets. The 60X is small enough to easily slide under a desk and should be plenty for the small office. MSRP is $250+, but do a web search and you can find it for about $150 to $160. More info:

Are you a small business owner? Now you can take credit cards, and print receipts just about anywhere! PaySaber is an advanced credit card solution for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. It features a secure, encrypted card reader that allows merchants to easily "clip" the device on and off iOS devices. There are different models, some of which can also print receipts, so check the company website for all the details:

Third Rail Cases offers iPhone cases that let you piggyback batteries for much spare power as you want. What’s ingenious is that the batteries are separate from the case. So if you buy a new case for a new model phone, you haven’t lost your battery investment. It’s a very clever system. More info:

We love Roku! And I Bet You Do Too.

For one thing Roku allows you to watch your favorite TWiT show on your HDTV. But now there’s a way to integrate Roku into your new Smart TV. It’s called Roku Stick. So as not to mess this up, and to save some time, here’s more info on the Roku Stick from the company blog. -- The Roku Streaming Stick —a little stick about the size of a standard USB flash drive will simply plug into a TV to instantly transform it into a Smart TV. It essentially includes everything in a Roku player—built-in WiFi, processor, memory and software—and will deliver all the channels found on the Roku platform today. It will also benefit from regular free software updates and channel enhancements. With the Roku Streaming Stick, consumers will be able to enjoy a Roku streaming experience that is fully integrated into their TVs. They’ll only need to use one remote for their TV and for streaming. There won’t be any cables or a power adaptor. And the best part is, when the Streaming Stick becomes outdated (and let’s face it, technology hardware needs to be upgraded as software evolves), consumers can simply purchase an inexpensive new Streaming Stick without having to replace their much more costly TVs. The Roku Streaming Stick will plug into MHL-enabled HDMI ports on TVs. MHL is a new standard that uses the HDMI connector on TVs to deliver power and other critical elements for the streaming experience. There are already TVs with MHL from Samsung and Toshiba, and you’ll see a bunch more announced at CES. Roku Streaming Sticks will be available in retail later this year alongside our streaming players, and at prices comparable to today’s Roku players ($50 to $100).

C. Crane Radios, Dune & Desert Racer, & Boxee Box Too!

Here’s the the folks at C. Crane have to say about radio: (Keep in mind you have first heard about C. Crane when Leo talked them on his far-reaching radio show!)

It is not a secret that we love radio at C. Crane. We can’t imagine what life would be like without it. It's hard to believe that, not too long ago, radio was the only widespread audio source available. Other technologies have taken away about 10% of the radio audience. We are aware that local radio stations, in every city, deliver information to their listeners that cannot be found elsewhere, except on the internet perhaps. We know that when the power goes out, radio is still there. When the internet goes down, radio is still there. For these reasons and many others, radio still commands a huge audience and we have a certain devotion to this technology. We wonder if there is a kid out there tuning in a distant AM station for the first time; the thought makes us smile.  Not only does C. Crane make a line of famous radios, they also produce Super USB WiFi antennas!
