Co-host Leo Laporte was out sick Saturday - so The Weekly Daily Giz Wiz, Netcast 1350, will be recorded next Sat. Jan. 28, 2012.

Special Weekly Daily Giz Wiz - Sarah Live & I recorded it Live! in Vegas.

It's the Weekly Daily Giz Wiz for the week of January 16th, 2012 - Netcast 1349

Thanks lrg33 for the photo!

On January 10th, 2012, during CES, Leo was invited to a special dinner by the President and CEO of Ford, Alan Mulally. Even though Leo & I were going to do the Weekly Daily Giz Wiz Live from Showstoppers, you don't turn down an invitation from the CEO of Ford. (Especially when they often sponsor the WDGW!) But Sarah Lane said she'd love to co-host with me, and she did! And she was super.

Sarah & I roamed the floor at Showstoppers picking out gadgets that caught our eye. TWiT Producer Nicole Lee did her best to write down the gadgets we talked about. She also helped move people out of the way as Hilton, our cameraman on this piece, spend about 90 minutes walking backwards as he sent out the live stream. Meanwhile back at TWiT they were recording this special Weekly Daily Giz Wiz so you can see it whenever you like:

I'll be adding more gadgets tonight & tomorrow, Fri & Sat, Jan 13th & 14th. Not every product description will include a photo, so it's best to watch the video.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga gathered quite a bit of attention at CES.

This was a big hit at the show. Lenovo calls it the Yoga IdeaPad because the device can serve as a notebook computer, or you can bend the keyboard/cover completely around and use it a tablet! It also has ten finger ‘touch’. Swipe your fingers over the touch screen and make 10 individual marks. It won’t be out till mid-year and the cost isn’t set. A spokesperson said they shooting for a price point around $1200. They may start with a Win7 version, or wait and come out with a Win8 version. If I were doing it, I’d wait for the Win8 version, but that may not be available until fall, depending on when Microsoft makes the software available.

A pocket mouse that does a lot.

The new Logitech Cube is a tiny pocket mouse with a built-in rechargable battery. But wait, there’s more! When you hold the Cube in the air, it becomes a way to control photos in a visual presentation. You can go forward, or reverse. There's also a touch scrolling feature. It ships with the tiny Logitech Unifying receiver that lets you connect up to six Unifying-compatible devices. So the Cube works with your other Logitech Unifying devices (if you have any) without taking up another USB port. Under $70

Simple Cell Phones For Folks Who Just Want to Make Calls & Maybe Send A Text.

I never heard of Emporia handsets until I saw them at Showstoppers. I learned that the company’s home is in Austria, and that they specialize in more basic type phones. Phones for perhaps first-time phone users, folks who hate bells and whistles, and phones for the fast-growing senior sector. Their products are currently sold in 30 countries, soon to be 31 as it expands to the U.S. in the spring. The Emporia Click and Emporia Solid are handsets without many buttons, lights and features. They are targeted towards folks who just want a phone to make calls, or maybe send a text. Smartphones they are not, but many folks will welcome such basic, easy-to-use phones. These mobile phones have big buttons and are ruggedly built. The Emporia Solid – (it actually might be called the Solid plus) is waterproof, has a built-in flashlight, and a “call for care” button. If the owner ‘falls and can’t get up’ or has any other problem that requires help – and no one is nearby, they can hold the ‘care’ button down for 3-seconds. That will start the handset calling up to 5 pre-loaded phone contacts. When one of the called numbers answers, the Solid phone goes into speaker mode automatically. Price and carriers were not announced at the time we went by their booth.

Yurbuds – headphones that won’t fall out even if you do a handstand!

The latest from Yurbuds are the Inspire Pro. There are two models. One has controls for the iPod, and a mic for phone calls. They are said to be designed by "athletes for athletes" and just so you know that they have a cool ironman figure right on them. To prove they stay in, they had a guy wearing them & doing handstands at Showstoppers. A spokesperson at the show said if you buy them and the fit isn’t right, take a picture of your ear and email to the company. They’ll get a set that fits you properly! They actually look pretty cool with the red and black design. Price about $60, depending on the model you need. Sarah did try on a pair, but I couldn't get her to do a handstand! She said she like them.
