The Giz Wiz Show 1654, December 22nd 2017 Independent Show #137

Reminder: Patreon has changed all the changes back to the way it was before all the changes!! Thank you for your all your emails and concerns. Patreon realized it wasn't popular with anyone.

Soon, in February 2018, The Giz Wiz Show will be entering our fourth year of Independent Production! And that all thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but quite frankly, a bit more support would be a big help. (As we can say honestly, asking for more Patreon supporters is not to make more money, it's to help us lose less money doing The Giz Wiz. Thanks.)

Something that's really fun - and it's an "as seen on TV" gadget!

You probably found it hard to miss seeing the ads on TV for Magic Tracks. You know about Magic Tracks -the amazing racetrack that can bend, flex and glow! You can change the design of your track into any pattern, the magic is serpentine technology. (Huh? Serpentine technology??) Just snap any track pieces together and in seconds you’ve got a customized speedway! The neon tracks glow in the dark! Each race car has 5 built-in LED lights that glow as they speed around the track. Turn off the lights and Wow! It Glows Like Magic! Well, I boiught a Magic Tracks set and as you'll see in the video, they're great fun. The tracks are easy to snap together and the car can travel around very sharp curves without flipping off the roadbed. The kit comes with decals to customize your car, but doesn't come with batteries. You'll need 3 AAA batteries. The one part of the commercial that seems way overblown is that the tracks glow in the dark. Watch the video to see how we couldn't get them to glow at all. But for under $20, I think kids (and most adults) will find this great fun. I know I did and so did Dennis who video recorded our playtime.

Motion Activated Closet Light With 18 LEDS!

The LEPOTEC Motion Sensor LED Closet Light works very well. It has18 LEDs, rechargable via USB. This is a great under cabinet light, auto on drawer light, or even as you'll see in our video, perfect for an open medicine cabinet in the bathroom. The light has 3 modes: Instant On/Instant or Off/Motion Sensing Light. It comes in a bright white version, but I prefer and bought the softer white. Inside the sleek aluminum shell is a 1500 mAh Lithium battery. The company says LED Life is about 80000 hours. There are also two other LED's which operate in the recharging mode. Red when the battery is in recharging mode and green to indicate: full charged. The price varies as to what color frame you want, silver or black and if you want white LED, or the soft white LED, but all the prices are under $18 for two units. Prices can change many times a day on Amazon, but this price check was on 12/20/17.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His Third Gadget For His December Theme!

Chad polled our loyal (and supportive) Patreons and they picked "cheap stocking stuffers" for his December theme. For this week's show Chad visited Frys, a huge electronics chain serving the west coast. There Chad found the MADLAB Lie Detector Kit. And yes, it fit in a Christmas stocking and passed Chad's size test. Here's what the Frys website says about the kit - which includes almost nothing about the actual kit:

The Lie Detector works by measuring galvanic response. In other words, when a person lies, they tend to sweat. Perspiration has a high sodium content, so sweat is conductive. Dry skin has a resistance of about 1 million ohms, whereas the resistance of moist skin is reduced by a factor of ten or more. A person holding the probe wires will change the voltage at the upper probe wire depending on their skin resistance. The skin resistance is in parallel with R2 and, because it is likely to be similar to or smaller than R2, the voltage at the probe wire will fall as skin resistance falls. $12.99

And Chad's take: Chad thought the kit looked interesting and easy to build. As you'll see in the video, he followed the instruction carefully, step-by-step. Unfortunately, he finally arrived at a step he was unable to complete. What was that step? How come nothing about it was mentioned on the package - and it's not mentioned on the web either. Watch this week's show to find out!

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

Alex Rearick sent us a Gadget Warehouse Video of a device that can be a What The Heck Is It? gadget. I happened to recognize what it is, but I asked Alex how he happened to find such an old gadget. Alex said that an old boss was getting rid of some stuff from a locker and found three of them and asked me if I wanted one. They were leftover equipment from before switching to electronic timekeeping devices. See if you knew what it was.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. But no matter where you live, I can email an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

Hi Dick & Chad

I had, hopefully, a quick question. I have a friend who is trying to come up with the most affordable way to stream video & audio from one room, to another room, in the same building. They have internet, & WiFi, & need some type of wireless solution, with the capability to zoom. He would like to get a wireless camera, & be able to stream that to a TV in the other room. Also, since it will be live, he would like as little lag as possible, as these room will have large numbers of persons, & everyone, in each room, will need to be in sync. What equipment will he need, & what type of setup?

Thank you guys so much. Mo
