These gloves might keep you warm, but they're cool!

LED Flashing Fingers Gloves! The fingers on these LED gloves light up different colors and fade in and out. I have no particular use for them, but hey, I love LED's and these look great! They have 6 Modes for the 7 color LED's. When the LED's are off, these just look like black and white fabric gloves. When you turn them on, the white finger sections light up. The light modes are changed by pressing the button on the top of each glove, located toward the wrist. They're powered by 4 CR2032 batteries which are included (and replaceable). I love Amazon's ideas on how to use this gloves: Can be used at dance halls, bars, stage performances and other large entertainment venues. --- And my favorite use: Can also be used to play the piano at night. They were $11.99 as of 8/17/16 and Amazon Prime, so free shipping for members.

Bring the ocean to your bedroom, thanks to LED's.

Meet the Ocean Wave Night Projector. Here's another inventive use for LED's. They can create an ocean wave atmosphere almost anywhere. Amazon says: Bring the seaside home to you, give yourself a piece of the (ocean) in multiple changes of color. Creates a perfect ocean wave atmosphere almost anywhere. Relaxing, comforting, soothing, creates a large, brilliant light show for your viewing entertainment and pleasure. 8 color/motion modes. Automatically shuts down after one hour. Battery powered (4AA batteries, not included) or USB powered, or AC powered with the included AC to USB plug. There's also a built-in mini speaker in case you want to hook a mobile device to it via the cable that's included included. (No Bluetooth or wireless connection.) It's on Amazon and Ebay under many different names all about $20 or less. I paid $18.99 for mine which is branded ABCOTECH:

Chad's Crappy Corner and another gadget for his August theme: cheap Smart Home gadgets.

Chad's August theme (As voted on by our loyal patrons) is “Crappy Smart Home Gadgets” and Chad's 2nd cheap gadget is the MIPOW E26 Bluetooth Smart LED Light Bulbs APP Group Controlled Dimmable Color Changing Decorative Christmas Party Lighting for iPhone, iPad and Android phones or tablets.

Here's what Amazon says about it: MIPOW Bluetooth 4.0 Smart LED Light Bulb can wireless control the Light ON/OFF, Brightness, Change Color, Set Timer, and group control from your mobile phone by a FREE APP. with 16,000,000 RGB colors, you can shake your mobile device or tap the color palette on the APP to change colors, set a timer to turn it on or off or change color at preset time via App. Additionally, you can make it display any color in any picture. It is absolutely wireless, just need screw it into any E26 / E27 screw base and then turn it on / off like an ordinary light bulb. It uses Bluetooth 4.0 to achieve fluent transmission. The PLAYBULB X App is compatible with Apple devices running iOS 7.0 or above, and most Android devices running Android 4.3 or above and with Bluetooth V4.0 or above. It is a leading edge smart home device, especially ideal to be used at home, apartment, dormitory etc. $19.99.

And Chad's take? Chad had mixed feelings about the MIPOW Smart LED Light Bulb. He showed us that similar bulbs from the leader in color-changing LED bulbs, the Philips Hue, cost at least three times more. The MIPOW Smart LED bulb can change colors via a Bluetooth app, but as you'll see in the video, the app doesn't work particularly well. The app is available for Android and iOS. Although Chad liked the colors from the MIPOW LED Smart Bulb, he was disappointed that it didn't do white very well. Also, as you see in the video, when it's set to white, the light is very bright, but the light has a lot of yellow in it. A good feature is that you can install many MIPOW Smart Light Bulbs in a room and control them all at the same time via the app. But the app is a stand-alone one and unlike the Philips Hue, it can only control other MIPOW bulbs. So it's an expensive controllable bulb, but does have several draw backs. It got 3.9 stars out of five from 132 reviewers. Watch the video to help make up your own mind.

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos!

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget of All Time: Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video! IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

Need a Mini-Monitor?

I have several small 7” & 10” LCD monitors in my apartment and Gizneyland studio. I use one as a monitor for my door-cam, and I use two as mini-TV monitors, hooked up to cable boxes which provide the video and sound. I like the 7” size because the pictures is decent, but they don't take up a lot of real estate in my work area. The latest one I bought is the SunFounder 7” with a 16:9 / 4:3 adjustable display. The listed resolution is 1024 X 600 and the picture quality is really decent. What I like about this monitor are all the inputs: PC (VGA), AV1, AV2, and HDMI. It can operate in a car/van/truck/ or even boat with the DC 12V harness that comes with it. If you're using front and rear cameras in your vehicle there are two video inputs and the ability to flip, or change image left and right. It also comes with an AC power supply. There's a remote control too, but it's very bare bones. The one dumb thing about this monitor is the cable that hooks up to the wiring harness. It comes directly out of the bottom of the monitor, which means the monitor can only be used with the stand. The stand is included, but it would be a much smaller packages without having to use it. From the reviews I read it seems a lot of people buy these monitor to use with Raspberry Pi mini-computers. I plan to also use mine with my tiny Kangaroo PC. The multiple inputs let you hook it to several device at the same time, switching between them at will. It's also a great travel monitor for viewing videos you shoot on the road when hooked to a 12V power source. It even has a small built-in speaker, which many monitors lack. It's about $55.00. You can find a lot of cheaper 7” monitors on Amazon, but the ones I checked out don't have all the inputs and the ability to run on AC and 12 volts.
