The Giz Wiz Show # 1825 – Recorded Wednesday 3/31/21 Independent Show #304

Wow! This is Giz Wiz Show 6 of year 16! (The first Giz Wiz Show – called The Daily Giz Wiz back then – was February 20th 2006!) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we're now going into year 16. If it wasn't for our supporters the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/

This is our April Fool's Show.... Be sure to listen to the inspired April Fool Kickstarter suggestions from our loyal fans! They're at the end of the show.

We start this week's show with the Water-powered Mini HydraLight! Does it really work?

A few year ago Chad and I both bought and reported on the HydraLight Flashlight, the water powered flashlight. I sent mine back, Chad still has his for emergencies. Now it seems it is probably the same company that now offers the 3 Pack Mini Emergency LED Water Powered Flashlight. Here's what the company says about them: NO POWER NO PROBLEM: Activates in 15 seconds by wetting the base; no batteries, plugin or power source required; Flashlights run for 72 hours total; Switch off to extend time with hand light. Perfect for power outages, blackouts, flashlight emergency preparedness. Compact size ideal for pocket, pack, first-aid kit; Take camping, hiking, in auto glovebox, travel flash light survival flashlight. 3 Pack, each one 2.75”H x 1.6”W x 0.5”D. 3/$12.95

Did they work? Yes. & No! Watch the complete demo:

A Chad Extra! Just add salt.

In this extra gadget episode Chad builds and runs -- well, tries to run, his 4M Green Science Salt Powered Truck. First, here's what company says about this kit: Learn about the fascinating world of green energy in a fun, hands-on way. Build this truck and prepare its battery for action. Then add some salty water to power up the battery and watch the truck go! A great green science project and Eco-Engineering kit. Includes truck parts, salt-powered battery and instructions. Recommended for ages 5 and up. Under $20.

And Chad's take? Chad built the truck and that part went fine. But then when making the battery, that was a big mess and sadly it only worked when Chad held the truck in a strange position. You'll see it all on this week's show. Be sure to watch as Chad even builds the battery that is designed to run this truck.

Here's the kit Chad bought: https://amzn.to/2PVaSmk

What Is Quake Hold?

-It's Museum Putty! Still not clear? The manufacturer explains:

Quake Hold! Museum Putty secures antiques, collectibles, figurines and more from falling and breaking. It can be used on most surfaces, including ceramics, porcelains and laminates, as well as on walls to help stabilize pictures. It comes ready to use in a two-and-a-half ounce flat sleeve, just pull off what you need. Roll the putty into small balls (about the size of a pea), or strips, and apply to the base of an item. Press down lightly and twist into position. It sets within 30-minutes and comes off cleanly with no mess. To remove, simply lift and twist from the bottom of the object. One packet will secure up to forty items of average size.

From The Giz Wiz. Be sure to watchmy demo on this weeks show. This worked great for me, and we never let it set for 30 minutes as it said in the instructions. (Your results may vary.) The company says it can hold up to 40 pounds depending on many factors, so be sure to read the full instructions. And of course there is no warantee object will remain adhered to a surface. Caution is required, etc. It is also very low priced, about $4. Also from one of the reviews I read it seems this product is sold under several different names, but I bought the Quake Hold! brand.

Chad's New Crappy Corner April Theme as picked by our loyal Patreon members!

The winning theme, voted on by our loyal Patreons, is “TikTok Made Me Buy It!” Okay, TikTok is not really a place that sells stuff. It more a platform for one minute-or-less videos about pretty much anything, but some videos might demonstrate gadgets you just might want to own. Chad saw one of those videos.

Chad's first 'TikTok Made Me Buy It' gadget is Chom Chom. What is it? Here's info from the company: The ChomChom Roller is one of the World’s Best Pet Hair Remover. By simply moving the pet hair roller back and forth, you immediately track and pick up cat hairs and dog hairs embedded deeply in sofas, couches, beds, carpets, blankets, comforters and more. You have probably tried all types of pet hair and lint removal products… from sticky roller tapes, to products that cannot be used over and over again.

And Chad's Take? This is a winner! I think you'll agree when you see Chad's video using this thing. It's plastic, and it's $24.95, but Chad thinks it's really worth it. Light years ahead of the self-cleaning pet brush I did a few weeks ago!

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up
hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
-
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 38+ year old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live outside of US, I can autograph an Alfred E. Neuman photo to you, scan it & email you a high res copy if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific! If you submitting warehouse videos for a second, third time, etc., you'll get the current issue of MAD as a thank you.

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
