Giz Wiz Show 1723 April 18, 2019 Independent Show #205

Wow! The Giz Wiz Show started year 13 overall & our 5th year of Independent Production! (First Giz Wiz show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. Thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!

And now to this week's show! Medical Equipment, “As Seen On TV” – Wow, that's gotta be professional equipment!

Roaming through my CVS “as seen on TV” shelves, I was drawn to Color Doctor Blood Pressure Monitor! With Color-Changing LCD Monitor and Easy-to-Read Numbers, it seemed like a great gadget to try for $19.99. It actually had a couple of other decent features. It can store data for two users – and has memory of up to 90 readings each. The wrist monitor is fairy easy to use and but in order to read the numbers on 2-inch wide LCD display you have to hold it just right. Otherwise all you see are a large number 8888888888's on the screen. The screen is backlit for increased visibility in poorly lit locations. There's a way to set it to include the month, date and time, but I didn't do that. The color-changing LCD monitor displays green for normal, yellow for prehypertension, and red indicating hypertension. Doing a bit of research online it turns out the numbers are slightly different depending on your age, but this wasn't a bad deal for $20 to my. I see one exactly like it for about $29 on Amazon, but I paid $19.99 at my local CVS store and guess you can find it a your local drugstore too for less than $29

Be sure to watch this week's show to see some rating scams for the Lakmus Blood Pressure Monitor Cuff Wrist - Digital BP Monitor FDA Approved - Fully Automatic Accurate Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor for Home - It had 100% 5 star reviews which seemed suspicious. OMG, what until you start to read some of them. They refer to all sorts of products that don't relate into any way to the device they're listed under! Check out some of these 5 stars reviews!

LilGadgets headphones are made especially for kids. They are perfect for long road trips, flights, or for any place where more than one kid wants to use headphones. There are many different styles, including one Bluetooth model. All feature kid safe volume limits (max volume is set at 93db) and something the company calls Share Ports.  The Share Ports lets kids connect multiple headphones to a single device in a daisy-chain fashion without needing an audio hub. It's a high-quality Bluetooth wireless children’s headphone, featuring the integrated SharePort to make sharing a little easier between kiddos. Each pair comes with a high quality microfiber travel pouch, a four foot premium nylon braided 3.5 millimeter audio cable with an inline microphone and a micro-USB charging cable. It's constructed out of a high quality polycarbonate, stainless steel and covered with comfortable SoftTouch Fabric. Chad 3rd gadget for his 'crappy corner' theme for April.

The theme the Patreons picked is: Cheap Gadgets to Help You Sleep. Chad's 3rd Gadget To Help You Sleep is The Aromatherapy Table LED Clock from Capello.

This techie device is a nightlight, LED alarm clock and oil diffuser all in one. It features a color-changing display that casts your room in a pretty glow. There's an LED screen with easy-to-read orange numbers, a snooze function, a sleep timer and multi-level brightness control. And you can add soothing lavender oil at night to help you fall asleep, or an energizing, citrusy blend in the morning to help you wake up in the morning. Chad bought his for under $35 at his local Target Store.

And Chad's take: Chad liked this a lot. The snooze alarm can be set to the number of minutes you choose, the aroma function shuts off automatically when it runs dry and he likes the nightlight glow. The main downside is that there is no battery backup. So if you have to unplug the clock for any reason you have reset all your settings. But overall, Chad thought it was worth the price.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video On Any Gadget!

Not all tech gadgets are hits!

In January 2001 DataPlay, a tiny 32mm optical disc data storage format, won Best of Show at CES. Less than two years later, in October 2002, the company announced it was shutting down. The record-just-once discs were manufactured by Imation. If you haven't heard of DataPlay, here's some info from Wikipedia: Using very small (32mm diameter) disks enclosed in a protective cartridge storing 250MB per side, DataPlay was intended primarily for portable music playback, including both pre-recorded disks and user-recorded disks (and disks that combined pre-recorded information with a writable area). DataPlay included an elaborate digital rights management system designed to allow consumers to "unlock" extra pre-recorded content on the disk at any time following the initial purchase. The recorded music industry was initially generally supportive of DataPlay and a small number of a pre-recorded DataPlay disks were released, including the Britney Spears album Britney. However, as a pre-recorded format, DataPlay was a failure.

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
