A Gift That Can Keep On Giving.

I talked about World Vision a couple of years ago on The Giz Wiz. I was reminded about them when they were this year's Holiday Gift Guide with an 8 month old alpaca. You may wonder, as I did at first, what a live animal would be doing at a gift show. Brian explained that he was with World Vision, and that animals can be given as a holiday gift in a loved one’s name. The animal(s) will go to help families in need in the 100 countries where World Vision does humanitarian work. For example you can give a goat for $75, which will provide a family with fresh milk daily and fertilizer too. I hesitantly asking why the family receiving the goat might not just decide to consume it for a few meals. But it turns out these in-need families understand a goat can constantly providing food, and when allowed to grow up and mate, results in more goats that can be given other needy families. I thought this was a great way to give. For example, there's a goat/chicken package. No, it’s not a joke and it cost less than I imagined. A goat is $75 and with two chickens, it’s $100. (No tax, shipping or handling!) Looking through the World Vision Gift Catalog I saw gift ideas as low as $16. Most of them are gifts that keeps on giving. So for the person who has everything, this is the perfect gift. You don’t need to know their sizes, if they use iOS or Android, or have a tablet or PC!
I always wonder what percentage of the money you give goes to the charity. I found this video on the World Vision website and it seems a donation adds up to more than the amount you give. Check it out:
