Back to Dick’s Gadget Warehouse for a nice 'disco-like' light machine.

Warehouse Friday

Lights! Camera! String! Action!

It was back in the mid 90’s when I came across the String Ray. No, not Sting Ray, the scary creature from the ocean, but the String Ray, a novelty item from
"With Design In Mind" Using just a single string and a light with a rotating color disc it produces a hypnotic light show.  Two motors spin and twist a single piece of white sting as the light from below reflects color on it. You put on your own light show by adjusting two knobs on the device that control the spin speed of string and the spinning light. You can manually adjust the angle of the motor arms to get really unique and colorful patterns and colors. It sold for about $80. Turns out Can You Imagine still makes unique things which are available on Amazon and at toy stores. But they no longer make the String Ray. The video of my String Ray was shot with the Acer Iconia Tab and uploaded to YouTube directly from the pad. The video quality is really good, but the audio needs work. I probably had the volume set too low.

This is first video Dennis Wunderlin shot video using the Acer Iconia tablet. Dennis says it certainly has the biggest viewfinder he's ever used. (It's a 10" tablet.) You can judge the results yourself when you view the video.
