Dick’s Gadget Warehouse & How To Submit Your Video To Win An Autographed Copy of MAD Magazine.

Our email this week is from Joe Aiello who writes:

I wasn't going to send in anything on my new 3D printer, since it's more of a Hobby device than just a "plug-N-pray" product.  But then you mentioned the new Anker model in the "One Weird Show".

So, I thought I'd share on my new toy....  I picked up a Creality Ender 3 Pro at MicroCenter for $100, after a 50% off coupon. I've always wanted one to make little household accessories that are too pricey in the stores. I now have a knife organizer in my drawer and a couple of Mug Hook strips to keep my mugs by the coffee.  The cost of filament and electricity means that the prices for these printouts is measured in Dimes/Quarters.  The Mug Hooks were less than a buck to hang 5 mugs. That's probably WAY more than it costs to make in China, but their real cost is for the labor to box it, move it to a truck, boat, warehouse, Amazon, UPS, and whatever else in between. But now I can make things I could use, (like that bottle mating collar), for less than it costs to pay someone to ring it up at a register.

Love the show, and all the same things everyone else says at the ends of their notes,

    JoeA

P.S. The cost difference between the Anker and mine essentially reflects the costs of the add-ons people buy over time. For instance, my $200 printer is the same as the $420 version, but it doesn't have all the extras bolted on. So, I can upgrade this one to the same as the Deluxe version if I want. Whether it's cheaper to upgrade or buy complete boils down to whether the stuff is on Sale. Or, in my instance, I now have a $40 upgrade on my gift-list for Father's Day, so it won't cost me much of my own money, just time!

Someone is the chatroom said the $100 off coupon mentioned in the warehouse video was still online, but it could only be used in the store. I could not find that on the company website. This is the printer in the warehouse video:

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
    -
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
    -
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
    -
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
    -
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 38+ year old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live outside of US, I can autograph an Alfred E. Neuman photo to you, scan it & email you a high res copy if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific! If you submitting warehouse videos for a second, third time, etc., you'll get the current issue of MAD as a thank you.

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

We Kick Off The Show With A Surprise Greeting Card.

If you shopped for a greeting card lately you know they can be expensive. At CVS, Dennis & I saw cards that ranged in price from $5 to $8 each. Then I found a way to make an original, fun card for a bit more than $3. It's original for two reasons. You design it, and the party receiving it gets the fun of a sort of scratch-off game. Your reveal can a real gift, a joke gift, or even just a greeting, revealed in the message. The one you'll see on this week's show is a 'joke' gift. They're called Golden Tickets. Simply write a message on the front of the card & cover it with the Gold sticker. Your recipient scratches off the golden sticker to reveal your custom hidden message. Gift ready with envelopes: blank cards/tickets and gold scratch off stickers. You can select 5 card sets ($15.99 - about $3.20 per card) or one card $7.99 (Seems expensive for one card.) Prices as of 4/10/22

    A Chad Extra!

Chad Discovers A Vacuum Broom That Sucks, But Not In A Good Way.

From the company: VaBroom Cordless 2-in-1 Sweeper with Built-In Vacuum. Tackle dirt & debris with this cordless broom that has a built-in vacuum! It features a quiet 14,000 RPM motor so you can easily sweep dirt and debris, and then vacuum it up by simply pressing the suction nozzle to the floor. No bending or dustpan needed. Empty contents in the trash with the easy release button. Rechargeable lithium power pack with 72 Inch charging cable included.

And Chad's take? Although one review said he had it up and charging in a few minutes Chad had trouble with both. Although he only charged it for 30 minutes, it showed no signs of trying to turn on. But another big problem is that the top section of handle which is supposed to screw together seemed not to have threads. So when Chad tried to picked up the broom it came off. And it was $60.00 at Walmart and even more, $65 on Amazon where it only got 3.3 stars out of 5. (Price & stars as of 4/11/22) Chad said this belongs in 'crappy' category.

Walmart: https://tinyurl.com/2p9d9t4u  $59.99 here Got better reviews than Amazon here.

It's $65.00 on Amazon and it didn't get good reviews.

We're doing Letter of week out of order on this show because I feel like I've been issued a 'gadget challenge!

    First, here's Adam Jakowenko's email:

    Hey Dick and Chad,.

Just wanted to thank you for the great gadget that you showed on a recent episode, the LED lights that are rechargeable and react to sound. I immediately bought them and put them in my office behind me...they're the perfect size for a small shelf, and since they are sound reactive, the lights jump whenever people are talking on my work zoom calls. The battery actually lasts all day, since they're only reacting to sound when I'm in a meeting. So I just plug them in at the end of the work day and they're ready to go the next day. I've gotten many comments as people love them. It's a great addition to my real life Zoom background 😁.

Since there are so many similar versions on amazon, I've included a link to the ones I purchased. They are USB-C rechargeable and also use the same front lights to indicate charging status and how full or empty the battery is, which is better than what Dick got. And mine were only 2 for $10! (type face is called sarcasm)

I've also included a clip to show you what everyone else sees on the calls... I played some copyright free music so you can see how they look and also be able to still play it on air if you choose. Love the show!

-Happy Patreon supporter, Adam in San Diego

Okay, even though Adam's email said: “better than what Dick got. And mine were only 2 for $10! (type face is called sarcasm)” I took that as a (friendly) challenge! I immediately bought an identical pair for myself. What did I think of them? Watch the show, or watch this video:

By the way, the photo on the Amazon page shows a smartphone app. There is no way to hook these LED's to an app. They do however come w/ 2 USB-C charging cables.

Chad's Crappy Corner and gadget 2 of his new April Cheap Gadget Theme.

The winning theme of Chad's Cheap Gadget Theme For April is: “Cheap Microwave Gadgets”.

Chad's second cheap microwave gadget is the Progressive Prep Solutions Microwave S'mores Maker.

Here's what Amazon says about it: "Get this all-time classic treat right out of the microwave with the Prep Solutions by Progressive Microwave S'mores Maker. You can microwave two S'Mores in just 30 seconds or less using this innovative product. You simply fill the water reservoir, place your graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallow on the tray and heat. The marshmallow and chocolate heat at the same time, thus ensuring a perfect S'More every time. You must change the water in the reservoir after every second time used. This S’Mores Maker is dishwasher-safe for easy, convenient cleaning.

And Chad's take: Chad liked this. As you'll see on this week's show, he'll adjust his recipe for the next time to uses it. It does miss out on a bit of flavor you get from making S'Mores over a campfire, but for a little more than ten bucks, it simplifies making them at home. It got 4.4 out of 5 stars from almost 3500 reviews as of 4/14/22.
