A great camping gadget, the portable shower!

It's called the Risepro Portable Shower Kit. You can use it indoors or out. Good for camping, watering plants, washing cars, etc. You just need a water source to drop the cordless pump into. It can be small like a bucket, or big like a lake. I actually used it as a mini bilge pump to drain a compartment on my boat. And I used it to water flowers at the front of my building. It comes with a suction cup and hook mount so you can use it as a hands free shower. The shower head water flows at approx. 2 liters per minute and up to 5-7 minutes shower time with 10 litres (2.5 gallons) water. Of course the shower you take will be at the exact temperature of the water you placed the pump in. On a hot day leaving a bucket of water in the sun for a few hours should make the water warm enough to enjoy a shower. It comes with a USB pin-type plug which I'm not crazy about. It would be better if it used USB-C or micro USB, cables we all have spares of. You can charge it via USB, portable mobile charger, or from a laptop. The company says it works up to 60 minutes continuously after a full charge.  It works pretty well as you'll see in this week's show. And it was just under $30 on 8/14/21 on Amazon.

The Personal Cooling & Heating System. Really?

First some stuff about this product from the web: Keep yourself cool under the heat of the summer sun with the Cooling Bottle and warm under the cold of the winter. Designed for portability, this hand-held device fits in most cup holders and runs on battery. The fan draws in air, circulates it around the Ice and sends cool air out. Whether you use it at an outdoor sporting event, the beach or just in the comfort of your own home, this device is indispensable when the weather heats up! Vacuum insulated, stainless steel double walled-chamber seals out ambient air to keep ice longer. For Cool-air: Add 2 Cups Ice Cubes(Max.) For Warm-air: Add 2~4 Air Activated Warmers. Runs all day and night on just 3AA batteries (Not Included). Tube is included

OMG, this was one of the most disappointing gadgets I ever used! I couldn't even get the air stream from this device to move the end of a paper towel. And it's so noisy. Take to the beach? You'll need to bring a cooler full of ice cubes.

Now let's look for it on the web!

     It's here for $119.99!! https://3pexperts.com/product/2-in-1-personal-cooling-and-heating-bottle/

    It's $34.99 on Until Gone: https://untilgone.com/products/2-in-1-personal-cooling-and-heating-bottle.html

There's a 3.0 Version on Amazon that looks similar but isn't exactly the same. It's $49.99 and the reviews seem to indicated it's not that great. Even their own copy says something like "You'll be up to 20 degrees cooler for about 20 minutes using 2 cups of ice. For that reason, it shuts off automatically after 20 minutes." Here's the link, but I'm not about to buy another one so similar to the one I already bought:

Amazon: https://amzn.to/3iwsPnq -  (I've not used this particular model but I suspect from the ratings it's not much better than the one I already bought.)

Here's a weird gadget Leo & I laughed about 15 years ago, but OMG, it's still around. The ice chest you can drive! https://www.cruzincooler.com/

The Tech Guy Leo Laporte -- He Knows His Stuff!

Strange as it seems, I have great WiFi in my Gizneyland studio, but zero WiFi in my apartment, even though they are back to back. Between the two apartments are bathrooms & small in kitchens and I would have expected WiFi to travel that far, but it doesn't. There is however a hardwired connection between the two apartments. I asked Leo how to get WiFi using the wired connection in my back apartment and he said buy a TP-Link Access Point. I bought the TP-Link Wireless Access Point TL-WA901N | 2.4Ghz N450 model. The company says: Designed to establish or expand a scalable high-speed wireless N network or to connect an Ethernet-enabled device such as a game console, digital media adapter, printer, or network-attached storage device to a wireless network. Supports Client, Multi-SSID, Range Extender, and AP operation modes to enable various wireless applications. It's also able to be powered using an Ethernet cable to simultaneously send data and electricity, up to 30 meters (100 feet) of flexible deployment with included Power over Ethernet Injector. Easily setup a WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK encrypted secure connection at a push of the WPS button. --- Okay, most of this I don't understand, but basically I plugged it in and it worked. But first I had to add a TP-Link TL-SG105 | 5 Port Gigabit Ethernet Splitter.

The single wire from my Gizneyland studio goes into the TP-Link TL-SG105 5 Port Gigabit Ethernet Splitter. Then a cable from the splitter goes to the new access point. Then I can add 3 other hardwired devices to the spitter and I also now I WiFi everywhere in Gizneyland and my apartment!

    Thank you, Leo!

The splitter was under $16.00 when I bought it and I don't think I've seen ratings this high before on Amazon: 4.8 out of 5 stars from almost 64,000 reviewers!

Notebook Computers & Chromebooks Are Light & Thin & Really Short On Inputs!

I have WiFi in my Gizneyland studio, but it doesn't extend to my apartment next door. I ran a cable between the two apartments, which means I only have a hard-wired connection in my living space. So when I took my Acer Chromebook there, I remembered it's setup for WiFi only. That's where the OWC USB-C Travel Dockcame in handy. By plugging it into my Chromebook I would be adding an Ethernet port and more. The Dock E has a 100 watt power pass through, so you plug it into your USB-C powered notebook or Chromebook and then you'll added six ports, one of which is the USB-C power pass through. You don't even need to remember to bring a cable because one is built into the bottom of the unit. The six ports are: (2) USB 3 Type-A, 4K HDMI 2.0, SD card reader, Gigabit Ethernet, and 100 watt USB-C power pass through. So via its integrated USB-C connecting cable, this mini Travel Dock E lets you transforms one USB-C input into a decent mobile office with the ability to connect, charge, display, and import with USB-C equipped computers, tablets, and phones. MSRP: $64.99, but it's selling for $10 less than that on Amazon and most other retailers.

Check the latest price on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3BziX3A (The newer version has an Ethernet port & 100W pass through, the previous model only 60W, some other upgrades too. But they often sell for the same price, so check the details carefully to get the newest model, which is called model E on the company website.)

Meet Two Of My Newest Fans...

Figrol NeckfanI bought two neck fans during a really bad heat wave in June 2021 in NYC. Day after day of 90+ degree weather and high humidity. Air conditioning in my apartment and Gizneyland studio kept me comfortable inside, but I need something for the outdoors. A quick check of Amazon and I found "neck fans"! The Giz Wiz  covered mini fans you wore around your neck a couple of years ago, but these look way more sleek. They're sometimes called 'bladeless fans' because you don't see any moving part; everything is the built into the case. One of two models I bought is no longer available, but there's one just looks just like it with a better battery and a higher price. It's the Jisulife that says it has a 4000 mAh rechargeable battery. Other than that the specs look pretty similar. The design of each however is fairly different. You can watch the video to see what they look like whenJisulife Neckfanworn. The Figrol has a 2400 mAh rechargeable battery and charges via USB-C. They both have 3 speeds and should do a fairly decent job of keeping you cool. I like the look of the Figrol a bit more, but it's bigger and weighs a bit more. In the video you'll see the Figrol and the now gone from Amazon Minluk - which looks exactly the new Jizulife I ordered. You can judge for yourself when you see both in the video. They retail from about $26  to $39.99 each. The price and availability is rapidly changing because of the heat wave across the country is sending people buying them!
