    Episode 958

    TwitterPeek
From the makers of the Peek (Episode 679) comes the TwitterPeek, devoted to tweeting.  You can also see twitpics on it.  If you want to be able to check emails and send texts as well, you can check out the Peek Pronto.

    GizWizBiz Cap at Halloween
In Episode 950, Leo talked about wearing the GizWizBiz Cap with a Freddy Krueger mask at Halloween.  Steve Miller wants Leo to know that he wouldn't have been the first.  Steve already did that, at Halloween last year, with the Friday 13th Jason hockey mask.  Here's what Steve might have looked like:

    Universal Signal for Choking
Leo demonstrates the universal sign for choking, and one for getting fed up with listening to the Daily Giz Wiz - which resembles Edvard Munch's "The Scream".

    The Scream: Howard Dean
MAD did a painting of Howard Dean in the style of "The Scream", which appeared in Issue 449 for January 2005.  Here's a photo of the painting taken by gruntzooki (better known as Cory Doctorow) on Flickr, reproduced here under a Creative Commons licence.

    Episode 957

    Lifting the Embargo
Leo has been itching to talk about his new TWiTmobile for a few weeks, but wanted to wait till the new sponsor, Ford SYNC, is ready.  While recording this episode last Wednesday, Leo had to block out the video and audio on TWiTLive.  The embargo was finally lifted last Sunday, on This Week In Tech.

    The New TWiTmobile
Leo's new car, as hinted by his photo of the audio system in the car (see Episode 951), is a red Ford Mustang 2010.

    QWERTY
David Whipple is one of many many listeners who have written in about the reason for the design of the Qwerty keyboard that Leo talked about in Episode 951.  It's not so much about slowing the typist down, but rather to avoid the jamming of keys for letters that often go together.

    Episode 956

    Gizneyland Guest
This week, Dick has a guest in his studio, Richie Hernandez.

The Ultimate Ludwik Package: back to Poland again
Mark Bendykowski, an expatriate aircraft mechanic at a helicopter maintenance centre in Warsaw, Poland, ordered the Ultimate Ludwik Package (for its origin, check out Episode 773), plus a GizWizBiz Cap.  Dick wanted to make sure that Mark did want an extra cap as one would be included in the package.  One day Mark was driving in his car and got a call on his iPhone, from the Giz Wiz himself - while he was listening to Episode 881!

    MyUS.com for International Listeners
For our international listeners outside the United States who pine after Daily Giz Wiz gadgets but can't get them because of shipping restrictions or disproportionate shipping costs, Mark has a suggestion.  MyUS.com can give you a
US delivery address, even make the purchases for you if a US credit card is needed, amalgamates your purchases and ships them in one go using DHL or FedEx.  Great idea!

    NEWS !!
    MAD Disco
From time to time, Dick manages to unearth from the dark reaches of Dick's Gadget Warehouse or under his bed some old MAD stuff.  He's done it again and this time it's a special edition of MAD, called MAD DISCO, that comes with a vinyl record of disco hits spoofs.  Disco is was and remains Dick's favourite genre and the idea of MAD DISCO was conceived by Dick himself.  You can buy a copy (or at least read about it) here on this site at MAD Collectables.

    Episode 955

    Broadway's Next H!t Musical
Leo hums innovative lyrics to the tune of The Girl From Ipanema, which reminds Dick of his favourite show every Friday at the moment, Broadway's Next H!t Musical (formerly called The Next Big Broadway Musical), the musical version of Whose Line Is It Anyway?

    Another Speed-Listener
As a DGW veteran, Aaron Murphy has just finished listening to Episode 929.  He too speed-listens to the show, at 1.5x.  He does it using the PaceMaker plugin for WinAmp, which allows you to adjust the tempo, speed and pitch of any file playable by WinAmp.

    Episode 954

    Petaluma's Local Mafia
The aesthetician next door, the last hold-out in the TWiT Cottage, has finally been driven out by the local Petaluma mafia called the TWiT Network.  Now that Leo has the whole of the TWiT Cottage (to be kitted out with more air-conditioners) to himself, the TWiT Network has become too big to fail.

    Nightmare at 20,000 Feet
Alessandro Abate lets Dick and Leo know that the episode of the Twilight Zone that they were talking about in Episode 944 is "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet", starring a young pre-Star Trek William Shatner.  Leo remarks that people from his generation all watched Rod Serling's Twilight Zone, its follow-up the Night Gallery, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents.  Now it's Numa Numa Boy.
