Show #1848 Thursday September 9th 2021 Independent Show 327

Wow! We're in year 16 of The Giz Wiz Show! (The first Giz Wiz Show – called The Daily Giz Wiz back then – was February 20th 2006!) If it wasn't for our loyal supporters, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. Like LEDs? You're in luck!

On this week's show I try 3 LED items for the bathroom from FiveBelow. They're all branded VIBE. (I think that's there's store brand name.) There's the LED toilet paper holder, the LED toothbrush holder, and the LED towel rack. Each of them requires 3 AAA batteries which are not included. They look great, but I have my doubts as to how long they'll stay in place when mounted with the included double-sided sticky pads. I think a towel on a rack is going to heavy and when you pull on it to slip it off, I'm not sure this rack will stay in place. The same with the toilet paper dispenser. With a full roll of toilet paper I don't know if it will stay in place as you unroll some sheets and tear them off. Those two also have to be turned on with a push button. The toothbrush holder is motion-activated and of course it doesn't require being stuck in place. Each one of them is $5 at your local Five Below, or you can buy them online, with $5.95 shipping added, but that's for the entire order.

If you want to spend about $44.00 - you can have a motion-activated LED toilet paper holder! (But it's white LED's, not color.) https://amzn.to/3A29Jvv

Sure, it can sharpen a knife, but this can also sharpen a credit card!

It's the amazing Bavarian Edge Knife Sharpener! (Although why would you want to sharpen the edge of a credit card? To divide up the dinner check perhaps?

This “As seen on TV ad” has been seen on TV quite often. It can sharpen a knife in seconds and make it so sharp you can slash a pineapple straight through in a single pass. But everyone's favorite – it can sharpen a credit card and give an edge sharp enough to let you easily cut tomato! Can it. Well, we'll see on this episode of The Giz Wiz Show!

Here's a bit more from the company: Bavarian Edge kitchen knife sharpener sharpens ALL your dull knives in seconds, unlike an electric knife sharpener or sharpening steel that only sharpens a couple different types of blades. Features two independent spring-action arms made of tungsten carbide that contour to your knife’s edge better than a knife sharpening stone. Sharpens, hones, and polishes your old knives – give your chef knife and butcher knife a makeover. Professional and portable knife sharpener works on all types of knife blades, like standard, serrated, and beveled. Under $20.00

Do you hate it when you can't get all the contents out of a lotion or condiment Bottle?

Then you should know about the Flip-It Bottle Emptying Kit. The company says: It Gets Every Drop Out of Lotions, Shampoos, Conditioners & Condiments. According to Consumer Reports, up to 25 percent of household products are wasted because people can’t get them out of the bottles. So if you're tired of struggling to get thick liquids out of the bottle ... or throwing away product you’ve paid for but can't get to use, there's a solution. The Flip-It it bottle emptying kit bottle cap offers zero waste. And it can help reduce the number of bottles going into landfills and reducing pollution caused by oozing discarded waste. Save money by getting every drop of product you paid for. Fits Most Standard Bottles. Each kit comes with four bottle thread adapters that fit the most common sized bottles! Reusable -- Simply hand wash or top-rack dishwasher and use again and again. Food grade safe and BPA Free. This is working well for me. I use it on a bottle of body lotion.

Chad's Crappy Corner & his second gadget for his new September Theme.

Chad's Cheap Gadget theme for September as picked by our loyal Patreons is “Gadgets for your tech.” Chad describes that theme as companion gadgets to use with tech you already own. Or even, “gadgets you can use with other gadgets you have”. Chad's second cheap gadget to use with gadgets already own is the LapGear Lap Desk.

Here's what the company says about their LapGear Home Office Lap Desk with Device Ledge, Mouse Pad, and Phone Holder in Black Carbon. Step away from the traditional desk and experience the home office Lap Desk. The 21. 1"X 12" Work surface Fits most 15. 6" Laptops and includes a device ledge to secure your laptop in place. With the built-in mouse pad and phone slot, The home office Lap Desk is designed to make work feel effortless. The innovative Dual-bolster cushions not only create a stable work surface, but also reduces heat in your lap.

And Chad's take? Chad liked this lap desk a lot. (So did I.) It's very handsome looking and Chad loved the holder that puts your smartphone at the perfect angle to read emails. Although the company says it fits most 15.6” laptops, Chad had no problem using it with his 17” laptop. It's available in many finishes and that makes the price vary. The carbon model Chad bought was about $28.00 and I guessed it would have been twice that price. It got incredible reviews on Amazon. 4.8 out of 5 stars from more than 26,000 reviewers.

This warehouse video is about an old gadget, still in use today.

Thanks, Mo

Here's Mo's video of his Pulse to Tone Converter For Rotary Phone Dial Telephone
https://youtu.be/BY61ToCtmvU

Paid: $18.00 Old Rotary Phone on eBay

The Rotary Phone, without the converter, allowed you to receive Calls, and the phone rang, but you were unable to dial out. The converted allowed you to dial / make calls.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
-
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 38+ year old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live outside of US, I can autograph an Alfred E. Neuman photo to you, scan it & email you a high res copy if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific! If you submitting warehouse videos for a second, third time, etc., you'll get the current issue of MAD as a thank you.

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
