Charge your iPhone4 by just laying it down.

Daily Giz Wiz, Wednesday, November 3st, 2010, Netcast 1213

The Powermat Wireless Charging System has been around for a few years. Like its name, it’s a way to charge devices wirelessly. But I was never attracted to the system because you had to add a big, chunky case to your device in order to enable it to be used with the wireless Powermat. But no more. Powermat has introduced a slim new system for iPhone 4. It’s a two-part solution. The case looks like a slim rugged case you’d used to protect your iPhone 4. Yet, the special charging electronics are built in.  The charging mat has a small footprint easy to place on the nightstand or desk. It’s designed to custom fit the iPhone 4. When you lay your phone down, a unique sound tells you that a solid connection has been made and your device is charging. When your device reaches full charge, power is shut off to avoid overcharging the device's battery. That also saves energy. After Auto Shut Off has occurred the system will monitor the status of the battery. If the battery is down, the system will start charging again. The Powermat Kit includes a Powermat wireless charging mat and a wireless receiver case for the iPhone, an AC Power Supply and a Micro USB to USB Cable. That's another feature of this system, it adds USB charging and sync to your iPhone4 or iPod touch. I don’t have an iPhone 4, but I did get to check out the system using my iPod Touch. Even though the case doesn’t fit the way it would with a iPhone 4, it works flawlessly! Check the Powermat website to see all the device that can be charged and the charge mats that are able to charge multiple devices at one time. MSRP is $59.99.

It’s a lens! It’s coffee cup. It’s two in one! Not, it’s not!

Daily Giz Wiz, Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010, Netcast 1212

As we were setting up to record this Turn The Table Tuesday episode I saw Leo catch a high-end camera lens as it rolled off the desk. Neat save, I thought. But I think Leo planned it that way, so I would think he almost dropped a lens that cost hundreds of dollars. Instead that expensive lens turned out to be an sort-of expensive coffee mug. Yes, it’s the Camera Lens Mug, a mug that looks just like a 24-105mm lens! It’s even equipped with a lens-cap that’s really the coffee mug lid. This truly realistic 24-105mm lens is made of plastic, with a stainless steel liner to help keep coffee, or tea hot. It’s sure to be a conversation starter. Or people will think you’re crazy, trying to drink out of a lens! The Camera Lens Mug is on the small size, about 4” tall, with a 3.3" diameter. It’s holds approx 11 oz of liquid. Cost is $24. Shipping starts at $2.50.
