We start this week's show with a camera like none you've ever seen before!

I Can Hear The Dialogue In Old Movies Again!

-I love old movies, and by old movies I'm talking about black & white murder mysteries from the 40's & 50's. There are a ton of them on YouTube and although I can put up with some of the faded images, it's the horrible sound on many that makes them almost impossible to understand. Then, at a virtual press event, I found ZVOX. The CEO of ZVOX, Tom Hannaher, told me their system called AccuVoice makes dialogue in old movie understandable again. It's different from other voice boosting systems which focus on equalization. AccuVoice combines compression, consonant-range boost, formant enhancement, minimization of bass output -- plus other proprietary techniques they prefer not to divulge. The AV157 which I have, uses 12 levels of dialogue boost – 6 stages of AccuVoice boost plus 6 stages of their new SuperVoice technology. SuperVoice takes dialogue clarity to a new level by dramatically reducing non-vocal background sounds. Also helpful is a bright, easy to read alphanumeric display that shines through the speaker grill for a few seconds as you make adjustments. Inside the unit are three 2"x3” high-output full-range speakers powered by a 24 watt Class D digital amplifier with Dolby™ Digital decoding. The unit is small, just 17"w x 3 3/8"d x 2 7/8"h. There are three connection options: a minijack for analog hookups to older TVs (cable included), an optical digital port (cable included), and a minijack output for use with your headphones or subwoofer. MSRP is $299.99, but Tom said it's always available at some retailer for $199.99. As of 5/1/21 it was $199.99 on Amazon. The ZVOX Mini is under $100. (6 levels of adjustment vs. 12 levels for the AV157.)

A Quickie What The Heck Is It?

I saw this on Woot & ordered it without reading exactly what it was. Why did I do that? Because the ad said “Normally $49.99, now 74% off - $12.99.” Who could resist such a bargain. Turns out it's a push pop fidget toy, which the company says is made of high-quality silicone material, so you don’t have to worry about your child’s safety. The decompression toy does not contain harmful chemicals that can cause any health problems. The sensory bubble toy is totally safe for kids, elderly, and adults. It's claimed to be a silicone squeeze toy that helps relieve stress, restore your mood, and creates a fun atmosphere. A perfect home essential whenever you feel bored and irritable. Or when your child, or yourself, suddenly feels anxious, restless and a bit OCD. Then you might need, or even just love this pop-it fidget toy. Well, it turns out I didn't get the bargain I thought. I found the exact same thing on Amazon where it sells regularly for $12.99! I was disappointed in the way Woot advertised it. But I do enjoy mindlessly pressing the bubbles down to hear the slight popping sound. Then I flip it over and start again!

Chad's Crappy Corner & his final gadget for his April Theme.

The winning theme, voted on by our loyal Patreons, is “TikTok Made Me Buy It!” Okay, TikTok is not really a place that sells stuff. It's a platform for one minute-or-less videos about pretty much anything. But some videos might demonstrate gadgets you just might want to own. So each week this month Chad watched one of those videos and he saw a gadget “TikTok Made Him Buy”! 

This week Chad's final  must buy gadget is the EZPB – Organic Self Cleaning Peanut Butter Mixer

Turns out when Chad went to find it on Amazon it was no longer available. But when preparing this for the website I found another Peanut Butter Mixer than seemed to more like what Chad wanted - one that was easier to use. This one comes with a screw on cover for a 16-ounce jar with 3" diameter mouth. Here's what Amazon says about it: Mix healthy, all natural peanut butter easily without splashing oil with this innovative natural peanut butter mixer. When finished, there is no need to worry with cleanup; the mixer is uniquely designed to self-clean the mixing rod when it is removed from the jar. 8" x 5" x 1". It's about a buck more than Chad paid, but it seems to to be a closer fix the problem he complained about. He was hoping it could be a one-handed operation. With this one you'll still have to hold the jar to mix, but according to a few of the reviews you can just leave it on the jar and not have to worry about cleaning it each time or even storing it. Just mix the peanut butter when you need to because it attached to the lid. $11.50.
