Giz Wiz Show #1783 June 11, 2020 Independent Show #264

This is our 5th year of Independent Production! (First Giz Wiz show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we're now going into year 15. If it wasn't for our supporters the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. Here's a really interesting gadget from Worx.

If you have a Worx cordless tool that uses one of their 20V Power Share batteries, you'll never forget your phone charger again. Why? Because now your Worx batteries can charge your USB devices with this new inexpensive gadget, the Worx USB Charger/Adapter. It slides right onto the Worx 20V Power Share batteries you may already have. It clicks into place and offers   2 usb ports at 5v 2.1A for charging on the go. And I was told it attaches onto any 20V Worx Power Share battery. A four LED charge indicator shows remaining battery power. The charger/adapter is sold as an accessory, no battery is included. It's just $19.99 at the Worx website & I assume other places too. I did not see it on Amazon as of 6/13/20

Last week I said I got screwed with a purchase on Amazon, but this week I just got screws on Amazon. Lots of them and for a great price!

I have a pair of glasses I love. I'll been unable to buy a second pair because these glasses are years old and I don't see them anywhere online. But I couldn't wear them because of a missing screw that seperated one of the earpieces from the rest of the frame. So on to Amazon where I saw something they ask: Perfect repair kit? It comes with 6 different sized precision magnetic eyeglass screwdrivers, a 1000 pieces of eyeglasses screws, nuts, and both metal and plastic washers. There's even a multi-function micro screwdriver that can fit on a keychain, tweezers, and a glasses cleaning cloth. I was able to fix my glasses in a 'good enough way' as you'll see in this week's show. So this kit is good eyeglass and sunglasses repair and most likely for other things like electronic, computer, and jewelry repair, or fixing anything with micro screws. The screws are said to be made of stainless steel, so they may or may not be attracted by the magnetic screwdrivers. The one screw I needed was. The entire kit was under $10 on 6/13/20, but that price could change at any time.

I Needed An Easy Way To Run A Hose To My Backyard.

There's no hose hook-up in my backyard so I used to have to use a 100' hose from the basement where the only connection is near the front of the building. Then I saw the SmarterFresh Seven Piece Faucet Adapter Kit, a Brass Aerator Adapter Set to Connect A Garden Hose to a kitchen or bathroom sink. The company says their faucet hose adapter kit is great for anyone looking to get more use out of their sink faucet. The adapters will fit most common sinks to attach garden hoses, sink sprayers, water filters, and more! But notice! ONLY FITS SINKS WITH REMOVABLE AERATORS - The included adapters are designed to be compatible only with faucets that have removable sink aerators. If your sink faucet does not have a removable aerator, these adapters will not work. My sink does have a removable aerator, but it didn't go as smoothly as it seemed at 1st.

Chad's Crappy Corner & his second gadget for his new June Theme.

Chad polled our loyal patreon members and their pick for June's Chad Crappy Corner is Summertime gadgets! Chad's second summertime gadget is great for the beach.

It's the Beach Vacation Accessories, 4 Beach Cup Holders For Sand w/Bottle Opener & Spikes. A bit of info from the company: Here's a sand coaster set made with pointed spike stakes that go easily into wet or dry sand. No opener? No problem! Crack open up a cold one with your drink buddies using the built in Bottle Opener, added for your convenience. Keep your stuff protected from the sand and other nasty critters. Easily holds drink cups, bottles, snacks, phones, keys, and other beach supplies.

And Chad's take: Watch this week's show to see Chad demo this at his local beach. He shows us how the bottle opener works, and he like the stackable design for compact storage and transportation. He also shows the twist to detach or connect the cup to or from the base. Chad liked these and paid about $15.00 for a set of four cup holders.

Dick Gadget Warehouse & How To Submit Your Video & Win An Autographed MAD Magazine.

Before I bought that eyeglass repair kit on Amazon (above) to fix my eyeglasses, I spend hours looking for another eyeglass repair kit I had from years ago. I couldn't even remember the name of it, so I bought the one I talked about earlier in this show. Then right after I fixed my glasses I was looking in a box from Dick's Gadget warehouse and there it was - the Snapit eyeglass repair kit! It's billed as the easiest and quickest way to repair your spectacles. (Actually, it is a very clever idea.) You simply drop the extra long screw in the hinge, screw it down and snap the end off. The screw is very long, so it's easy to do. You'll see how it's down in the company video that's on this week's show. I picked this as my warehouse video, because I met the inventor ten years ago! I believe it is the lady in the video. She told me she spent $250,000 to get her product to market. Surprise! It's still available online. The kit come packaged in a little tube. The tube includes 5 screws of varying lengths and thicknesses, plus a handy screwdriver. They say it will fit 99% of all glasses, reading glasses and sunglasses. So now you have another option to fix broken glasses if it's a screw problem. And they're both under $10.

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
-
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 38+ year old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live outside of US, I can autograph an Alfred E. Neuman photo to you, scan it & email you a high res copy if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific! If you submitting warehouse videos for a second, third time, etc., you'll get the current issue of MAD as a thank you.

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Email of the week:

Derek Murray writes:  Hey Dick and Chad,

Watching this weeks show (Episode 1782) And the Scenespin gadget reminded me of a kickstarter. I backed on Kickstarter about 5 years ago, a gadget called the Bubblepod, which was a clockwork 360 degrees doohicky which with an app (which was next to useless) you could take 360 video or panoramas, which you could mount on a tripod or on top of a wine bottle.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1218595273/bubblepod-professional-360o-images-in-less-than-a-0
I did receive the item, but it was garage, if you recorded video, the phone's microphone would pick up the vibration of the clockwork unwinding.  And the App would constantly crash, it was only £15 at the time, but that Scenespin looks like it could do a great job for a fraction of the price.

Great show as always, Stay safe
