The Giz Wiz Show 1630 for July 7th 2017, Our 113th Independent Production.

We're into our third year of Independent Production thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/ You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help.

And now a look at new gadgets from the Inspired Home Housewares For The Holidays Event, New York City, June 15th, 2017. But you don't have to wait until the holidays; so are available now, and more will be available this summer. (Please forgive the noisy audio in the first video and the slightly disorted audio in the 3rd video. We have problems with so many companies running noisy appliances.)

Cut Your Food, Not Your Fingers.

Middle schooler R. J. Batts started brainstorming about how his dad, a restaurant chef, could protect his fingers at work because his dad cut his fingers quite often. With the support of his parents he set out to invent a product that would shield his Dad’s fingers. While working on sketches and 3D prototypes, Batts hit upon a simple yet effective way to shield each finger thoroughly up to above the second knuckle – the areas most exposed when using kitchen knives. He continued to improve the product, first by adding prongs to hold food securely in place. Then, to make the product sanitary for professional kitchen environments, he decided to forge the “Professional” version from sturdy stainless steel, adding a series of holes to provide access for thorough cleaning. The Tip Tough was born. It's available now, while R.J. works on a home version and a child's version that might sell for about $10.00.

Peel Boiled Eggs In A Few Second

If the task of peeling hard-boiled eggs is a tedious and frustrating chore for you, meet The Negg Maker. It's an ingenious, yet simple new kitchen tool makes the irksome task of peeling a boiled egg quick and easy. With just a little bit of water and a few shakes, the Negg Maker peels boiled eggs in seconds with no mess. Its design, which includes egg-shaped bumps on the inside to help facilitate the removal of the shell on the sides of the egg, it's possible to peel a dozen boiled eggs in under four minutes. This handy tool is perfect for the kitchens of both chefs and home cooks. It can also be a fun way to get children involved in cooking. Perfect for anyone preparing popular dishes like deviled eggs or those adhering to high protein diet regimes like the Paleo diet, for instance. Clean-up is easy, too. The 100 percent USA-made Negg™ Maker is dishwasher-safe and BPA free. As you'll see in the video, I tried it a couple of times. My first attempt was so-so, but my second attempt was a lot better. If you just need to peel a hard-boiled egg once in a while, the $17.99, plus S&H may not be worth it. But if you have to peel a lot of hard-boiled egg, this could be a welcome gadget.

Two New Counter Top Gadgets From Hamilton Beach

Hamilton Beach Sound Shield 950 Blender

Hamilton Beach says their Sound Shield Blender provides sufficiently quieter blending using a unique commercial style two-piece 'quiet shield'. They also designed the motor and motor base to dim the sound. Featuring their MultiBlend jar and blade design, this blender is ideal for icy drinks, food and more. Program operations include Smoothie, Ice Crush and Clean. Pat told me the sound shield is easily removable just by pushing a release button on each side. Model 53600 & 53601 has a MSRP of $69.99 & $79.99. They'll be available in September, 2017.

Hamilton Beach 6-Speed ErgoMix

Pat, our Hamilton Beach spokesperson explained that their new ErgoMix is designed to minimize arm and wrist stress while maximizing control and comfort. This lightweight mixer strategically positions your elbow and wrist offering what Hamilton Beach calls Quick Burst Technology for extra power at any of it's six speeds. I tried it only for a minute or so and it does seem to be easy to move around the bowl with almost no effort. Coming in August. MSRP is $49.99 (Model 62667)

Chad's Crappy Corner & His New Theme For July, 2017

Chad's New July Theme, as voted on by our loyal Patreon members, is “Gadgets from home improvement stories like Lowes & Home Depot.” Chad bought two for this episode.

Chad's first gadget is the Niteize Buglit which is also available on Amazon. Here's what Amazon says about it: BugLit has a fun, cool design and it's also exceptionally useful. In fact, it may be the most innovative and versatile hands-free flashlight you've ever seen. The BugLit "body" is actually our powerful INOVA Microlight - a tough micro flashlight encased in a durable polycarbonate plastic housing, with four functions (high power, low power, strobe, and signal). Next, the securely attached "legs" are two flexible, fully moldable 6" Nite Ize Gear Ties, which can be bent, wrapped, or twisted in many configurations, to sit, stand, store, or shine the flashlight. And, finally, its lightweight plastic S-Biner clip allows you to attach, hang, or store the BugLit for convenient access on zippers or keys. Chad paid about $10.00 Right now it's a bit less on Amazon in red. (The LED is white, the body is red. Be aware there is also a red LED version for bikes, but this is not it.)

And Chad's second gadget is the Hide A Key Cash Hider Sprinkler Head, Key Holder Outdoor / Garden / Yard hiding Vault Case. Waterproof, Corrosion and Impact resistant, it's made of PC/ Industrial Level ABS. ENOUGH SPACE FOR: KEYS, SPARE CASH or SMALL DOCUMENT, secret compartment measures 3” X 1.5”. BLENDS IN: Realistic look like Sprinkler head. EASY TO USE: Built-in key chain, NO NEED TO pull the whole vault out in case of use.

And Chad's take on these two gadgets? Chad liked them both. He thought the Nite Ize BugLit was perfect for working in a dark area like under sink or in a closet. He showed us how the moldable legs can twist around stationery item so you can aim the bright LED light in the are where you need it shine. It's tiny too, so great for a backpack, toolbox, etc.

Chad also liked the Hide A Key/Cash Sprinker Head. He has a sprinkler system installed, so this would be easy to hide, and not stand out like some of the fake key rocks do. He showed how the cap unscrews and lets you retrieve keys from the hooks hanging from the cap. Both of these gadgets are inexpensive, under $10.00.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

This week Dick's Gadget Warehouse becomes Chad's Gadget Shelf. In Chad's collection of 'gadgets he doesn't use, but can't bear to part with' is the Griffin PowerMate USB. It's a new gadget Leo talked about on The Giz Wiz Show in 2006. But guess what? Eleven years later and it's still available for sale! Plus there's a new Bluetooth version. First here's an explanation of what it does from Griffin: It spins like a knob. It clicks like a mouse. But it's so much more. You can use PowerMate USB to edit home movies, or scroll through long documents, or create your next audio masterpiece. How can PowerMate USB be this cool? Because it's an assignable controller that you can program to do anything you want, in any application. You can quickly and easily program it to execute any Key Command, in any application. And if you're running Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard, we have software for you that supercharges your PowerMate. It even comes preset to work with iMovie and GarageBand, right out of the box!

Chad doesn't use his PowerMate USB, because he says, it really just performs just two simple operations. So why doesn't he get rid of it. Chad: “It's beautiful, it glows a tech blue color, and it just looks amazing - even if it just sits on a shelf.”

Must have one too? It's on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2tSBckb  - And here's the newer Bluetooth version for about the same price: http://amzn.to/2tOw9BBAs an Amazon Associate Giz Wiz Biz earns from qualifying Amazon purchases.See or hear this show: www.gizwiz.tv/episode/1630

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos!

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video!

IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

Good day Dick and Chad,

Keep up the terrible job and the best dunb show!

I was wanting to know if chad could share some insight on streaming? For instance, what internet speed is your upload and when you stream how are you able to stream to Twitch and YouTube at the same time? Also what software do you use for streaming, XSplit, OpenBroadcaster, etc.? Any insight on this would be great, thank you and keep up the great work!

William Michael Alford

Chad answers this question in detail on this episode of The Giz Wiz.
