The Giz Wiz, Week of July 16th 2014, Show # 1477

Fun Finds At The 2014 New Products Holiday Gift Show.

A new, easier way to carry a toddler.

It’s called SaddleBaby and it’s a patented and unique product that enables parents to carry their children on their shoulders hands-free. The company says it supports parent-child bonding and makes outdoor experiences more enjoyable for both. How does it work? SaddleBaby replaces the traditional method of needing to hold your child’s ankles with a much safer system. It uses high quality industrial hook-and-loop fasteners and adjustable buckles to secure your child. SaddleBaby allows a person to safely free their hands to do more and focus on spending quality time with their child. And being elevated safely on dad’s shoulders should also please your little one! $89.00 on the company website and on Amazon.

Bet You Never Thought Of Giving A Goat Or Chickens For A Gift!

While walking through New Products Holiday Gift Show I saw an Alpaca and a goat in a little fenced in area. At first I thought they were giant stuffed toys. But as I walked closer, I saw they were beautiful, friendly, live animals. I asked Christine, who was standing with them, what live animals were doing at a gift show. Christine explained that she was with World Vision, and that animals can be given as a holiday gift in a loved one’s name. The animal(s) will go to help families in need in the 100 countries where World Vision does humanitarian work.  For example you can give a goat for $75, which will provide a family with fresh milk daily and fertilizer too. I hesitantly asking why the family receiving the goat might not just decide to have it for a few meals. Christine explained that these families understand a goat is constantly providing food, and when allowed to grow up and mate, results in more goats that can be given other needy families. I thought this was a great way to give. So much so, that Dennis and I bought a goat/chicken package. No, it’s not a joke and it cost less than I imagined. A goat is $75 and with two chickens, it’s $100. (No tax, shipping or handling!) The World Vision Gift Catalog has hundreds of gift ideas starting at $10. It's truly a gift that keeps on giving. So for the person who has everything, this is the perfect gift. You don’t need to know their sizes, if they use iOS or Android, or have a tablet or PC!

Two 'Monsters' You'll Love To Have Around The House.

I love this Animal Planet Smoke Breathing Ice Dragon and kids will too. Kids can bring their dragon to life as they control his walking action with the included remote control. With his light-up red eyes and awesome vapor-based steam effect, he is clearly a beast like no other. And fear not, the steam effect is produced with water and it’s cold steam. I thought the price would have been more than the SRP of $34.99. It will be available at Toys “R” Us starting this Fall, 2014.

Another monster!

For more monster fun, it’s the Animal Planet RC T-Rex. At over 3 feet tall, this Radio Controlled T-Rex is great for indoor or outdoor use on smooth surfaces. The company says all you have to do is inflate the body, add the wheels, put in batteries and you’re set to go. Comes with a remote control that is perfect for small hands. This RC T-Rex can move forward, backward and can even spin in a circle. Depending on the size of the child, this could be “life-sized fun.” SRP: $39.99. Available at Toys “R” Us starting this Fall, 2014.

Chad's Crappy Corner! The 3rd gadget in Chad’s theme for July: Things that have something to do drinking.

And Chad's gadget is: Ivation Silicone ICE Shot-Glass Mold

(Tray of 8 - Can Also be Used as Jelly Tray or Chocolate Mold - Made of Food-Grade Silicon - Sky Blue)

Here's the description from Amazon:  Perfectly Chilled 'Neat' Drinks

Sounds like an oxymoron? Not with Ivation's ice shot glasses! Our food-grade silicon mold turns plain water into beautifully sculpted ice shot glasses in a matter of hours. Pour yourself and your party guests a shot of your finest libation, and you'll all enjoy the gentle chill of the ice glass without the spoilage brought on by rapid-melt ice cubes. Our mold tray is the largest one available, yielding eight ice shot glasses that each hold one ounce of liquid. Enough for the entire entourage! Prepare for your happy event by pre-freezing a few trays of shot glasses using the Ivation mold. Once frozen, they can be taken out of the molds and kept in the freezer until the party and then used as disposable shot glasses.

And Chad's take? Chad liked them, although he said it's rather difficult to get the frozen glasses out of the tray because the ice expands as it freezes. He liked the fact that you can make glasses in color too, just using food color. Chad also said if you have sensitive fingers the frozen glasses are really cold to hold, but they fun to smash when they're empty. (They'll just melt and become water again.) For $16.99, Chad said he would buy them.

No Longer Available.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse. And how to submit your video to the show.

This week's viewer video arrived with this email:

Hi Dick and OMGchad:

I've recorded a video about my homemade arcade cabinet. It has over 8000 games on it!! It runs on a PC with windows XP and a front end called MaLa. The cabinet is based on a Pacman cocktail arcade cabinet with an added control panel on the side.

I had built a standard tall cabinet about 9 years ago but that lives at my parents summer house. This one was built 3 years ago. Blood, sweat and tears went into the making of this cabinet but it was all worth it :D

I had some help with the camera work from my girlfriend Carly and she is a big fan of the GizWiz.

We are new to TWiT as we started watching it at the end of last year but have found it the be one of the best things ever!

                                                      +++++++++++

We’re still looking for Viewer Videos! We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show

Here’s what we’re looking: Your home shoot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

My Favorite Gadget of All Time: Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be something you just bought too.

Post them on YouTube and send our producer, Jeff Needles, the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you will now be awarded with some sort of prize. Like an autographed MAD magazine and some piece of crap. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video!

All show submissions go to gizwiz@twit.tv
