Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

    Hi Chad and Dick,

I really enjoy watching your show except for the fact it can be very expensive, if you are a gadget person like I am. I have some gadgets in my kitchen that I don’t know what they do and I don’t even cook, but I can’t get rid of them.

Anyway this is a small gadget that I found that is just for fun.

    Here is the link: https://youtu.be/GUQZfyk2dH8
Keep up the great show, Arlis

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos!

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

    -

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

    -

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

    -

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

    -

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video!

IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

The Giz Wiz Show 1637 for August 25th 2017, Our 120th Independent Production.

We're into our third year of Independent Production thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help.

We start this week's show with two back to school gadgets. (Back to office too, and great for road warriors.)

A lot of students are going back to school with just a tablet, forgoing a laptop. I love tablets, but I don't like typing on them. So I started a search for the latest in a portable keyboard. Well another portable keyboard. I already have one from Zagg and one from Logitech. But they're a couple of years old and I wanted to see what was new. On Amazon I found the iClever Ultra Slim Wireless Keyboard. It's a tri-folding. aluminum alloy keyboard with bluetooth AND with 3-color backlight. And, as the company points out, it's for iOS Windows PC, Tablets, and Smartphones. You have your choice of using it wirelessly via Bluetooth 3.0, or you can have a wired connection to ordinary USB-enabled devices. I compared the size of the iClever keyboard to my full-size computer keyboard, and unfolded the iClever keyboard is the same size. But it folds to fit easily in the included carry bag. Since it has full standard-size keys I was able to type on it rather quickly with only an occasional mistake. I'm sure that will improve to 100% after some time typing on this new keyboard. I also like a lot that you can select the backlit color from red, blue or green, and adjust it with a bright or dim keystroke. Beware though using the LED's cost you a lot of battery power. According to the company the built-in 750mAh lithium battery will give you an uninterrupted working time of just 5 hours with the LED's on, or 300 hours with them off. Charging time is said to be less than 4 hours, and the price is right at under $40.00. It got very good reviews on Amazon. It looks like you can buy a similar model without LED's for $29.99, but I only bought the LED version. I think it's a great addition for a back-to-school gadget if you're using a tablet or smart phone for taking notes. The iClever keyboard is approximately 4 ¾ X 6 ½ X 3/4” folded and it opens to an 11 1/2” full-sized keyboard. On my little office postage scale it weighed 9.6 ounces. It's here on Amazon:

An inexpensive, but very useful backpack!

Every back-to-school season I try to find a unique backpack. This year I found a backpack with a couple of unique features, that is also incredibly inexplensive. It's the Inateck Laptop Backpack. It's good-looking and the company says it's made from waterproof, scratch-resistant, anti-tear special nylon fabric. It's also the first backpack I've seen with slip-on waterproof cover. It's like a elastic slip-on raincoat for your backpack and it's included in the price. Also unique is an external USB Port; slide your power bank into the backpack and plug it in; now you can charge devices with the backpack closed. A luggage belt at the back lets your backpack slip over the extending handle on your rolling luggage. Side pockets hold personal belongings like a water bottle or umbrella. And a padded compartment holds up to 15.6 inch laptop. I think it's a bargain at $39.99, but Amazon instant discount dropped price to $27.99! Offer was still valid as of 8/24/17

    Got ice? We do!

If you live in a small apartment, you probably have a small refrigerator and that means not much ice. Well the Rosewill Compact Countertop Ice Makercan solve that problem. We bought one on Amazon and put it to the test. The first ice cubes appeared in about 8 minutes. They're more like ice-shaped bullets' that are hidden at the center. You start the process by pouring water into the unit and selecting 'large or small' cubes. It makes the cubes in little batches and takes like an hour or more to fill the small ice tray. But they chill drinks quickly and don't get stuck together when sitting in the ice tray. Since this is not connected to a water supply it's perfect for a small RV, boat, kitchen, etc. It just needs a 110V outlet that accepts a 3-prong plug. The case is mostly stainless steel with the rest what looks like a very decent plastic. The company says it's able to make 26.5 lb of small or large bullet-shaped ice cubes every 24 hours. It also has automatic stop producing function, when it senses the ice tray is full. The integrated storage bin holds 1.54 lb of ice. Price is all over the place. I saw 4 different prices on Amazon alone, so we bought it the lowest we saw there: $109.99 including tax and shipping. Warrantees are often a waste of money, but a four year one for just $14 seemed like a good deal – just $3.50 a year, so we bought that too. And now that we see the moving parts in the ice maker, we're glad to have a four year warrantee.

UPDATE! 8/29/17 - Woke up to no ice, just water in the machine. Unplugged it, emailed the company and within two hours they said it could be returned for a full refund. They emailed me a return label. Just for laughs, I plugged it back in. It's been making ice ever since. Since I have two weeks to return it, I'm watching it carefully, but will probably return it anyway. UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: Decided to return it while the offer of a full refund was in effect. Amazon even returned the money I paid for the warantee since I return the ice maker within two weeks of telling them I had a problem. Will buy another one, but going to do some more research first.

Chad's Crappy Corner And Another Thrift Shop Tech Gadget - His Theme For August.

Chad polls our faithful Patrons to determine each month's theme for 'Chad's Crappy Corner'. This month our patron's voted on a theme Chad is still very excited about. It's “Cheap Tech Gadgets from Thrift Shops'. And this week's gadget is the BUG-A-SALT!

BUG-A-SALT is a way to get rid of bugs in places where you don't want to use chemicals, or sprays. This gun, as it's name implies, uses table salt. Fortunately for the demo, Chad choose pictures of flies so we could see how the fired salt actually is quite powerful. And it turns out BUG-A-SALT is a big deal online with many versions. Here, for Amazon, is a bit about the one that looks closest to the one Chad bought at the Thrift Store. LIMITED EDITION DESIGN! The BUG-A-SALT CAMOFLY 2.0 is the most powerful, efficient BUG-A-SALT designed yet. The Bug-A-Salt shoots a shotgun spray of regular table salt and decimates flies on contact. A surefire fun way to enjoy a disgusting task. Rid your house of all those pesky pests and have a blast while doing it. $50.00. -------Wow, $50. Chad paid 10% of that price, and got it for just $5.
