Bought my first "smart home" gadget, cheap!

I can't resist bargains, so when I saw the Eufy Genie(a less expensive version of the Amazon Echo Dot, with less features) for under $20, I ordered one. It's a product from a sister company of Anker, a brand I know and trust, so I figured it had to be pretty good. Like the Echo Dot, it's a voice-controlled smart speaker and it actually uses Amazon's intelligent Alexa voice assistant. (Amazon licenses its technology to other companies.) Like the dot, I say the wake word "Alexa" and Genie plays music, even old stuff like disco standards. (Yes, I still like disco.) It can control your smart home devices, but I don't have any -yet. Now that I have an easy way to control them, I'll just ordered a smart outlet. Genie can answer your questions, get the weather, news flash briefings and more. I was very impressed when I told Alexa to add a meeting to my calendar and indeed it was there on my computer calendar when I looked. Things to be aware of if you're interested in a Eufy Genie. It only works on a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and it does not have Bluetooth. Neither of these was a deal breaker for me, especially at $19.90 for something close to that. The built 2W speaker delivers very decent sound, especially for it's size. (It's about 1/3 bigger than the Dot Echo so some reviewers said it sounds a bit better.) You can get playlists from streaming services like Spotify, Amazon Music, TuneIn, Pandora and iHeartRadio. It was easy to set up with the free EufyHome app. Use the Amazon Alexa app to access 10000+ skills and services, such as Sirius XM, Domino's Pizza, Uber, ESPN, NPR News, and much more. Genie will be able to do soon. Future updates include: Alexa messaging and calling. EufyHome requires a smartphone or tablet running iOS 8.0 (and above) or Android 4.3 (and above) to operate.) To make up for the lack of Bluetooth there's a 5 ft aux cable in the box along with the Eufy Genie, AC power adapter and user manual. Plus the company offers a worry-free 12-month warranty and lifetime technical support. MSRP: $34.99.
