New Vizio Smart Cast offer Ultra HD and HDR

VIZIO continues to drive the lower price end of the Ultra HD market with incredible value display units. The new VIZIO SmartCast M-Series Ultra HD HDR Dolby Vision Home Theater Display is a perfect example. I have the 50” Model D1. It's part of the VIZIO SmartCast collection which means Google Cast is built-in. It comes with two remotes. The small bare bones remote just gives you basic on/off, volume up/down, and input selection. But you also get a 6” Android tablet remote. You can find and view videos, movies, etc. on the tablet and if you like, hit the “cast” icon to have them move onto to your M-Series Ultra HD screen. Leo Laporte, The Tech Guy recommends buying TV's that are HDR equipped, and this VIZIO unit does feature High Dynamic Range. I haven't tried it yet, but you can search for movie and more via voice using the VIZIO SmartCast app that comes pre-installed on the 6" Android tablet remote. The tablet is perfect as a remote, but you can't do a too more with it because it only comes with 8Gb Storage and you can't add more. However the tablet screen offers a 720p HD picture so you can take it watch videos anywhere you have your WiFi signal. So you never pick up the remote table and find it needs a charge, you also get a charging dock that doubles as a tablet stand. Just putting it on the stand starts the charging. But wait, there's more. You can play games on your big VIZIO screen while using your mobile tablet screen as a game controller. The display offers four HDMI ports to connect Cable/Satellite boxes, Bluray/DVD players, Gaming Consoles and Computers. You can even use the virtual keyboard on the tablet to name the inputs. Be aware though this is what VIZIO calls a Tuner-Free Display. Since most households today stream or watch live TV from cable and satellite boxes which don't require a tuner, you probably won't care. But if you use an external antenna to watch free local channels, you will need to get a separate tuner adapter to connect your antenna to your display. The price is ridiculously low, especially when on sale, which is often. MSRP $849.99. Black Friday weekend 11/25/16, it was at many stores and the company website $599.99, incuding shipping. (It was still that %599.99 price on the Vizio website when I checked on 11/27/16. Otherwise I've seen it quite often for $699.99.
