The Giz Wiz Show 1634 for August 4st 2017, Our 117th Independent Production.

We're into our third year of Independent Production thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help.

This week it's another fun event show on this week's Giz Wiz Show! There are many Summer media events that show off gifts and gadgets for the holidays. Why are they in summer, so far in advance of the holidays? Some folks still find out about the latest 'hot' holiday gift ideas from the big color, slick magazines. And slick magazines need to make their picks in July and August in order to get them into the fall/winter issues. Of course with today's blog's reporters can often tell any audience what they consider a 'hot gift idea' within a few minutes of learning about, or even broadcast it live!

Hammacher Schlemmer is known for unique, off-beat gifts. And we found four of them on display the Holiday Gift Guide.

Since we're seeing these gadgets for the first time, all the info here was provided by the company.

The Three Little Pigs Talking Pig. (This was just added to the company website:)

The Rapid Photo Album Scanner. This is the device with patented anti-glare technology that converts photographs into digital images without having to remove them from a mounted photo album. The converter rests on an album page, displays its subject on its built-in 2.4" TFT color LCD, and uses a 14 MP CMOS sensor to scan the photo in as a 700 dpi JPEG. The digital image can be stored on an SD card up to 32 GB (not included) or imported to a computer with the included USB cable. The device also converts slides and 135 film negatives into digital images with 3200 dpi resolution using included trays. Accepts photographs up to 4" x 6". Plugs into AC with included adapter or can also be powered via a computer using its USB cable. 8 1/4" L x 7" W x 6 1/2" D. (2 1/2 lbs.) $199.99

The Selfie Drone. This is the smartphone-controlled drone that captures and shares stunning first-person photos and video without a clumsy selfie stick. Ideal for novice flyers, the drone can take off and land from your hand and features a 98' range, obstacle avoidance, and optical flow for stable flight that creates a hovering tripod. Its 12 MP camera offers electronic and mechanical stabilization and flash to record bucket-list adventures, party hijinks, or daily happenings on-the-fly, day or night. A free app for iOS or Android smartphones provides intuitive navigation and camera controls and one-touch sharing of “dronies” to all your social media. Saves up to 1080p/60 fps video onto a microSD card up to 64 GB. Its rechargeable battery provides eight minutes of flight time from a 90-minute charge. Includes two batteries, 16 GB microSD card, USB charging cradle with cable, removable training bumpers, and carrying case. 1 1/2" H x 8" W x 8" D. (10 oz.)

The Mirthful Sommelier's Wine Glasses. These are the wine glasses with bent stems that add a touch of whimsy to one’s wine service. Ideal for setting a relaxed, lighthearted mood at the beginning of a gathering or for a surreptitious stemware switch after guests are about to start on their second Syrah, each glass sits atop a wide, sturdy base that holds wine securely, despite an impaired appearance. Easily nosed, each glass is hand-blown into a unique vessel with stems that bend a bit more or bowls that tilt a bit more than others, supporting the adage that wine affects everyone—and every glass—differently. Set of two 12 oz. dishwasher-safe glasses. 7" H. (1 oz.) 2 for $24.95.
