The Giz Wiz Show #1509! Week of March 12th, 2015.

The Giz Wiz Goes To The Global Pet Expo in Orlando, Florida and returns with lots of neat pet gadgets!

At Global Pet Expo Motorola introduced two new pet collars, the SCOUT 2500 and SCOUT 5000. They say they’re the latest wearable technology for pets. The SCOUT 2500 allows owners to track their pet and pinpoint their exact location using GPS. The SCOUT 2500 also allows users to set up geo-fencing for their pet through the Hubble app. Launching in summer 2015, the SCOUT 2500 will retail for $99. When I asked about a monthly fee, there was some good news. The entire first year is free, and service thereafter is only about $30 a year. Early GPS tracking devices sometimes had a $20 or more a monthly fee, which is why they didn’t sell well. Designed for slightly larger dogs, the SCOUT 5000 provides all the functionality of the SCOUT 2500 (on the right) with the added benefit of a camera and audio communication features. Owners can see what their dog sees with a 4K Wi-Fi  camera built into the collar. Using the Hubble for Motorola Monitors app, the SCOUT 5000 (pictured top left) can stream video directly from the collar to the owner’s compatible smartphone. The live stream footage can even be recorded in 720p on an SD card aboard the camera. But wait, there’s more! Owners can communicate with their dogs with a built-in speaker and two-way audio. Well, you can talk to your pet. Whether they answer or not is up to your pet. The Motorola SCOUT 5000 is water-resistant and available in an array of styles and colors. MSRP is $199. Both are coming in the fall 2015.
