Leo's "Crap From The Sky Mall Catalog!" Pick Of The Week!
September 11, 2012
Post a Comment Every week people vote on a list of stupid gadgets from the Sky Mall catalog they want to see Leo 'buy and try'. (You can vote below on what Leo should buy next.) Meanwhile, here's today's Sky Mall piece of crap:
The Sheng Kwong Authentic Metal Gong
First here's the Sky Maill description: A sharp staccato sound with long lasting shimmer is the reward for touching beater to metal on this traditional, suspended Chinese gong. Two feet of authentic, quality metal with an antique finish is paired with a companion metal beater, resulting in a work of decorative art that's the perfect addition to any Asian art collection. 18"W x 8"D x 24"H. 6 lbs. $89.95.
And how did it sound? Like someone hitting the bottom of a frying pan! Tinny at best. It is nice looking and bigger in size than we thought. But the sound is pretty bad. OMGChad thinks it's just designed as decoration, not meant for hitting. Hitting it actually did dent it as Leo showed us. But it comes with a 'beater' and the description does mention 'a sharp staccato sound with long lasting shimmer'. And it's really not 'suspended' as the description says. The gong is solidly mounted and doesn't move. All in all, a big disappointment. But if you still want to buy one? It's here:
